An All-Star Guide to the Hamptons
No one personifies the Hamptons like longtime East Hampton resident Ina Garten. You might see her stopping by Canal Cafe in Hampton Bays for lunch or having dinner at the swank Red Bar Brasserie in Southampton. But it's even more likely that you'll bump into her at one of her many favorite specialty-food shops — like Pike Farms in Sagaponack for sweet corn and other local produce, or Cavaniola's in Sag Harbor for cheese. When she needs new plants or tools for her quarter-acre kitchen garden, she goes to Marders in Bridgehampton, which is worth a stop even if you're not landscaping: There's an art gallery in the barn out back.
When Chopped judge Marc Murphy stays at his house in Bridgehampton, he loves strolling the pier in nearby Sag Harbor with ice cream from Big Olaf or getting dinner at the Crow's Nest Inn & Restaurant in Montauk (the grilled artichoke and whole fluke are favorites). His kids, Campbell, 9, and Callen, 6, make after-dinner s'mores in the bonfire. Marc is also an avid surfer, and he catches the best waves off of Ditch Plains Beach in Montauk. Then he grabs a drink at The Stephen Talkhouse, an Amagansett spot that features live music.
When they're visiting family in Southampton, Sandra Lee and her boyfriend, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, are regulars at Scotto's Italian Pork Store in Hampton Bays. The couple loves the store's fresh mozzarella.
A weekend in the Hamptons isn't just a vacation for Geoffrey Zakarian — it's a trip down Iron Chef memory lane: He won The Next Iron Chef semifinal at the Montauk Yacht Club. But he prefers staying at the suites and private cottages at the Inn at Windmill Lane in Amagansett ("It's beachy yet clean and cool," he says). He's always sure to fit in a trip with his kids, Madeline, 6, and Anna, 4, to Round Swamp Farm in East Hampton for muffins; they get a kick out of the chicken coop.
Bobby Flay's house in Amagansett has two kitchens (indoor and out), but he breaks away from them occasionally. He loves hitting Bostwick's Chowder House in East Hampton for a lobster roll. The landmark spot serves seafood in just about every form.
