  • caramel apple cake is ultimate halloween treat
  • stir sugar and syrup as mixture turns dark amber
  • add cream and butter to sugar and syrup mixture
  • let caramel set in pan for about 30 minutes
  • arrange apple slices in ring around pan
  • use melon baller to scoop out center of apple
  • arrange apple top stem side down in center of pan
  • whisk sour cream,orange juice and vanilla
  • stand mixer with paddle attachment used to cream
  • add eggs to batter mixture one at a time
  • finish combining cake batter by hand with spatula
  • top cake batter with chopped apple and bake
  • rest cake pan in warm water to soften caramel
  • hold handles and wriggle pan off to release cake
