This is AMAZING...as long as you follow the correct recipe. On Ina's site, Barefoot Contessa, it states "1 tablespoon kosher salt; 1½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper". On another recipe site, it is also written that way (and from chef who invented it. Food Network--and the latest magazine issue--has it incorrect.

I made this for a couple of friends, for the first time, about a year and a half ago, after seeing Ina Garten's episode on Food Network. I didn't have Panko on hand, so I used Vigo seasoned bread-crumbs with Romano cheese. I also used fresh sage, instead of thyme. The rest of the recipe was followed pretty closely. It was hands-down, the best meatloaf I'd ever made or tasted. As for my friends, well, let's just say it was a HUGE hit! They still talk about it to this day. For anyone looking for a new meatloaf recipe, this is the one. You'll never go back to your old recipe, again. Cheers!

I've never been a fan of meatloaf but this was amazing. I also wondered if the salt and pepper amounts in the FNM article were correct, 2 Tbsp seemed like so much salt. That's how much I used, and yes, it was salty, but wonderful. Apparently that was double the original recipe on the show. Next time I think I will use less.

After watching Ina's video and correcting the differences in the printed recipe, I made it exactly as the chef who prepared it. In all honesty, I have never liked meatloaf and was only making it at my husband's suggestion. He won't have to worry about not having homemade meatloaf again. It was absolutely delicious.....I can't believe I just said that about meatloaf! It was moist and tasty and the ketchup bottle never left the fridge. Do not skip the incredible Garlic Sauce. It was the crowning glory and extremely easy to make. The meatloaf was prepared ahead and put in the fridge while I cleaned up the kitchen and the sauce was made while the meal was in the oven. Unless, someone is allergic to an ingredient, no one should ever change an original recipe and then rate it based on THEIR recipe. This was perfect and, with the suggested sauce, was a whole other animal than mom's tomato covered, onion soup mix disaster. This one's a keeper.

This really is the best meatloaf I've ever had. It was light, flavorful and stunningly delicious. I must say, I'm a bit disappointed in the people assigned to translate the recipes from show to website because the measurements are wrong here. I got my measurements from the episode directly and it came it heavenly.

I've just finished preparing this recipe and I'll let it rest in the fridge for a few hours to develop the flavours, ( plus I had time to prepare it in the morning....
I was just looking at a review which shows the salt pepper amts are wrong. I've checked a couple of other sites and found the remark correct. Indeed, the salt should be 1 tablespoon and the pepper 1 1/2 teaspoons. Hope it won't be too salty... Keep you posted.

Watched this being made on Food Network UK and it looked yummy. I have to admit to "turning up my nose" at meatloaf - I always thought of it as what my Aunt used to call "washing day" dinner. In other words, a meal thrown together in a hurry, without much thought, on a busy day. The 1770 house meatloaf has completely converted me!

I did reduce Mrs Garten's suggested amount of salt as she seems very heavy handed with it compared with British cooking standards.

After re-watching this episode and writing the recipe from the show directly I found a few mistakes that may have possibly have fixed this meat loaf for all of us who where disappointed with this recipe. I found that the recipe says to use 2 Tablespoons of salt when only 1 tablespoon was supposed to be added. Again the recipe said 1 Tablespoon of black pepper where is only 1 1/2 teaspoons was supposed to be added. One more thing for a lot more flavor make sure you use 10 cloves of sauteed browned garlic cloves. Hope this helps...Helped me LOTS anyways!

Moist and flavourfull... That was exactly what I was looking for , campared to the heavy , dry , bland meatloaf I've been used of... I always follow the recipe the first time then personalise to my likes ...thank-you for the great recipe!
