i completely left out the gremolata. i couldn't find orzo at my local grocery, so i used elbow macaroni. i also used ground turkey because that's what i had in the fridge. so many flavors in my mouth! it was wonderful. although, i must say that without at butt-load of feta, this dish would need some salt! it also helped to really salt the pita chips. i will definitely cook this again.
oh yeah, this makes a HECK-OF-A-LOT of food.

I usually love Rach's stuff so I was rather excited to make this and it sounds like something my family would love, but this was awful. The flavors totally did not work. Will definantly not make again!!

....but not good Greek. I'm not sure what Rachel was trying to accomplish with this dish. I made it twice, following the recipe exactly, and none of the 8 people I served it to on two different occasions cared for it, even though we all like classic Greek food. I think that I much prefer the traditional Hungarian version, and even the cafeteria "ghoulash" to this recipe.

My Greek family turned their noses up at this one. I made it using the exact ingredients...so substitutions. The flavors were much too strong...even for people who are used to eating Greek food. The lamb was overwhelming. Please no more like this one.

Sorry, I did not like this recipe. I used ground beef. I didn't like the flavors. I usually love leftovers, but I did not want to eat it the next day.

I made with ground turkey and brown rice. I think without the Gremolata and/or feta, the base goulash would need some salt -- not so with those toppings! Quite easy, would be very easy if your frying pan is very large. Great aroma, and the touch of cinnamon is awesome.

Some friends came over, so we tried this dish. None of us like Feta, so we had mozarella. One of us didn't like lamb, so we used ground turkey since we had that on-hand. I'm sure those two changes altered the dish from what was intended, and it was terrible. Double the garlic and the tomato sauce. Forget about the gromalata. That made it worse. The pita chips would have been better with a bowl of chili. There was eoungh left to serve two again. I kept the leftovers only because I want to add in some lamb to see how it changes. Otherwise, the leftovers and the recipe would have went into the garbage.

...and I really liked this recipe.

It's a great combination of a few of my favorite Greek foods - moussaka, spanakorizo and macaronia me kima. I used ground sirloin (don't really like ground lamb too much, and to be honest, I rarely use it in my Greek cooking. The gremolata was good, but this dish didn't really need it - it's great on it's own, with just a Greek salad on the side.

...but our po-dunk grocery store doesn't carry ground lamb. It was kind of bland. It made a mess to cook, it wasn't as easy as she makes it look. It tasted ok, but not my husband's favorite. I'll eat anything.
