Captain Parker's is nothing but a tourist trap. I don't know if the owners of this place have incriminating pictures of every food and travel magazine/television writer, but I can't imagine why the media love this place. Maybe Rachael's staff's a bunch of lazy loafers who didn't do any due diligence to find a place on the Cape better than this joint.
The clam chowder (don't say "chowdah" unless you want to make a fool of yourself here isn't bad, but so many other places on the Cape make it better. My choice is the Chatham Squire but there are places with better chowder than Capt. Parker's from Wareham to P-town and without all the boring, clueless tourists.

OMG! My husband and I went to the New England area this time last year and we came across Capt Parker's Pub. I was on the hunt for the best clam chowder. I had it in Boston, Portland, Newark, & Plymouth. I first started with a cup, then I had a bowl, then I had a bowl to go. Guess you could say, I was in love with his Chowder.

While vacationing In West Yarmouth happened to come across Captain Parker's restaurant. It was close to the hotel and the lot was full of cars. Good clue! I am not a clam chowder person but my girlfriend said it was the best she ever had. All the food was great. We ate there just about every night and for a couple of lunches also. I would recommend it to anyone who would be in that area. Being from PA. doesn't qualify us as clam chowder experts, but we vacation just about exclusively in Maine and the Cape. Have eaten at a lot of places and this one would be in the top ten.

Looking at the ingredients, I thought it couldn't be just 6 servings & I was right! This recipe makes well over 2 gallons! I didn't have Minor's Clam Base so I used one 15oz can of clam stock. Probably should have used another can of stock instead of the water for more clam flavor. It turned out pretty tasty anyway ;- Need to adjust the recipe since there's just two of us. Wish we were on the Cape @ the Captain's Pub!

It was sooooo rich and creamy. Very filling but everyone had seconds... and thirds. I have children and even my picky eater finished a whole bowl!

I am fortunate to live about 60 miles from the captains restaurant on route 28 on the cape and visit it at lease three times a month just for the chowder. It is by far the best I ever had. I have made it following thus recipe to the letter and have had friends tell me it is identical to the Captains in every way. I would not change one thing with it. I would suggest measuring each ingredient to get an exact amount.

I am thinking that instead of pound...which is listed for the flour and butter, it should read cup.........I am making it this afternoon, so I will be checking back to post what I figure out....
As an aside, Captain Parker's chowder is without a doubt "THE" best chowder that I have ever tasted. It is so creamy and delicious and just thick enough. I sure hope that the recipe is a good one.

I would add less clam base to this chowder. Other than that, this is a great tasting chowder.Every one who ate this thought it was very good.
