This cake is amazing...but the recipe did need lots of adjustments...frosting? too much butter. I kept adding powdered sugar until I got the flavor I was looking for, and then spread it ALL on the cake. It's a heavy one! lol
I also agree that the baking needed longer. I shut the oven off and left the cake in for @10 minutes after the initial 15 so it would bake and not burn.

This cake is amazing. I made it for a work party and everyone loved it. It is a little time consuming but completely worth it. I agree with other comments: 1 1/2 cups (not pounds of butter and a longer baking time. I used 9 inch pans and baked for 25 minutes. The ganache is beautiful and the cake incredibly moist. Will definitely make again!

This cake is delicious - very rich! Definitely a special occasion cake! I know it's mentioned in other reviews, but seriously make sure you use 1 1/2 cups of butter (3 sticks for the frosting, NOT 1 1/2 lbs! I made three 8" cakes plus 16 cupcakes with one recipe, filling each pan about halfway full. It took approx. 25 minutes to bake - just test it with a toothpick. Also, this cake took me 2 hours just to prep - and yes, I used my kitchenaid stand mixer! But it's worth it! My favorite part is the ganache, but everyone else raves about the frosting.

This cake was fantastic. I only used 3 sticks of butter and added some baking chocolate to the frosting. I didn't have 10 in pans so I made 3 9 in. cakes which took about 25 mins. to cook. I would love to see these chefs come up with recipes that taste fabulous while using healthier ingredients, like coconut or almond flour and different natural sweeteners.

The cake and the ganache are fantastic. The buttercream frosting was way too rich; this was most likely due to the fact the recipe calls for 1 1/2 pounds of butter instead of 1 1/2 cups (most seem to agree that 1 1/2 cups is actually the correct amount. Also, the cook time is indicated to be 15 minutes. I don't know a what elevation 15 minutes is correct but for me it was way off. The cooktime was was about 40 minutes. So, if you make this, you will want to adjust the butter.

I wanted a good chocolate cake for my own BD..This cake rocked! I've made lots of cakes but everyone still talks about this one......almost like a sophisticated devil dog...loved it! I used a simple buttercream recipe from allrecipes. Get off line and make this cake!

A winner! My goddaughter's birthday is around Thanksgiving, and she asked for chocolate, so found this recipe. I haven't baked in years, and do not have an electric mixing bowl, so added more time to prep. The time listed doens't seem to include time to let the cake get cold before frosting. It was very helpful for others to mention the mistake in the butter for the icing. At first the color of the icing looked odd, but it worked well when the cake was done. The contrast between the cake, the light filling/icing and then the ganache on top looks very good and goot oohs and ahhs. It is a rich cake, so if you cut pieces to serve 6, people who are not fanatical rich fudge people may not finish. Definitely a keeper though, and I will use when I need a cake for chocolate fans.

Made this for thanksgiving and the cake and ganache were great but the buttercream was overwhelmed with a butter taste. Next time I will use less butter or a different recipe. The cake baked in about 25 minutes and remember to stir the cream to avoid a film developing. I added chocolate chips to the buttercream for a little crunch and to add a better flavor to the frosting. Would make the cake again but probably use a different frosting.

AMAZING! So delish...except the frosting looked funny so I added 6 ounces of cream cheese to it....which made the cake taste that much better!! Definitely recommend this recipe!!
