I will admit that I've never tried fried green tomatoes before, and that probably has a bearing on my rating. I was saddled with WAY too many unripe tomatoes before our first frost here, so I decided to give them a try. I didn't care for them, though they were nice and crispy. A healthy dose of salt made them more palatable, but still, they are too sour for my tastes. If you like fried green tomatoes, this may be a great recipe, but I'm not about to make them again.

I made these for a cookout and everyone LOVED them! Some guests even said they were the best they ever tasted. The panko really makes a huge difference in the crisp. I think I am going to start using panko for all my breadings. The only thing I did differently was salt the sliced tomatoes and lay them out on a cookie sheet for about 20 minutes so that they have a great seasoning. (that's a Paula Deen trick I will definitely be making these again!!

This recipe was awesome! It's now replaced our previous version! The panko made them crispy!

We tried this last night, and it was delicious! We added a little grated parmesean cheese to the flour/cornmeal mixture. We'll make this one again.
