I watched an episode of Giada making gelato and thought to myself that I could do that too. So I ordered an ice cream machine and started searching for an ice cream/gelato recipe. After reading the reviews, I decided to try this one. Please don't look any further for a recipe, you'll be wasting your time! This is simply a delightful party in your mouth! So rich, so creamy and so good. And I really mean it when I say that it is better than what you can buy in your grocery store. I followed the recipe exactly as written, but did add one vanilla bean. My husband and seven year-old son said it was the best ice cream they had ever had and I agree! One bowl is definitely not enough!

This is the only homemade ice cream recipe I've found that is worth making. All of the others I've tried turn out grainy and freeze up solid. Sure this one is a bit more work than just dumping the ingredients into the machine, but it is well worth it!

This was my first attempt at making homemade ice cream. I was really nervous at first because I have never made a custard, but this was incredibly easy! I only chilled it for about 2 hours (covered with plastic wrap to prevent a "skin" forming on the surface, and it turned out great. The kids and hubby loved it, and that's what matters most to me! Will definitely make this again.

This ice cream is THA BOMB!!! OMG!! It is very easy to make and tastes exquisite! I tripled the amount because I tripled the recipe because I didn't think it was enough for the four pigs in my house. But, instead of tripling the egg amount, I only put in 10 egg yolks instead of 12. You CANNOT smell or taste the eggs in the ice cream at all once it's done. I also added about a tablespoon more of vanilla, simply because I LOVE vanilla. I also added the the contents of one vanilla bean. The recipe calls for fine sugar. I didn't have fine sugar and didn't see any in the store, wasn't gonna go looking all over town looking for some fine sugar, so I used what I had. NO problem with it at all! The ice cream is smooth and creamy. My kids absolutely loved it. I think the next time we make it, I'm gonna put some Oreo cookies in it.

I made this recipie once. I don't know what the difference is but I was surprised that 24 hours after putting the ice cream in the freezer, it was still normal ice cream consistency. It wasn't a hard block like you would normally get from homemade ice cream.

I made chocolate ice cream using that Alton Brown recipie the same day and ice cream was a brick. I am going to try to adapt this moolicious vanilla recipie into a chocolate recipie and see if I get a similar result.

This recipe turned out fantastic! Everyone loved it. We had 7 ice creams in a competition and it lost only to a heavenly chocolate. Granted, I changed the recipe just a little. Doubling the recipe would have been too much for the old fashioned ice cream churners we were using. 1.5 times was the perfect amount. Instead of the vanilla I used 5 packets of Starbucks VIA instant coffee. Just whisked them into the hot mixture. The sweetness was perfect. I also added chopped chocolate bits at toward the end of churning.

It is excellent ice cream. I make it with youngsters and we have alot of fun. It is also fun to bring to my friends who love it as well. We have adapted it a bit to make strawberry and extra vanilla bean. I make a double, triple or even a quadruple batch so I can use it as a base for all sorts of different flavors. Yum!
