    tooooooo much salt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
THe only reason I rated this awful was because of the amount of salt it called for. Thats a very important ingredient that to me can totally make it inedible. I should have went with my gut or remembered to look at the other reviews. I also didn't get much curry taste from the curry egg wash. I've had better homemade patties, I don't know why everyone loved it. The SALT TOTALLY KILLED IT FOR ME.

    Great Easy Recipe

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I modified this recipe by using ground turkey instead of ground beef and it was great. Very tasty and very easy to follow. Just made mines a bit bigger. I would buy these in the frozen section at my local Costco and was so excited to see the recipe and try it, they are great!!!!

    Great for Parties (Tapas)

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This was a hit -everyone loved it. I was very careful about putting salt since there were a few who commented about it being too salty - I opted out for the curry powder since I had ran out of it and didn't realized it until I was putting this recipe together. It was yummy and will definitely be making it again for our get togethers.

Excellent But Recipe Calls For Too Much Salt

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
This recipe was outstanding! Everyone loves it. I only gave it 4 stars, because 1 Tablespoon of salt is way too much! As an experienced cook, I knew this just looking at the recipe. I added one teaspoon and it was still almost too salty for me, but once it got in the pie crust, it was fine. Had I used the 1 Tablespoon, it would have been inedible. Aside from that correction, it would be a five star PLUS recipe!

Saw these on the show and had to make them. Made according to recipe and they were better than they sounded on tv. However, it took me far longer than the time says. I must not be that fast at getting them wrapped up, but it was worth the wait! Big Daddy, I'm glad you won, 'cause you have some GREAT recipes!

Good - Needed Modification for my Taste

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
This was a great recipe as a base for creating beef pies, but I had a few problems with it and had to make modifications the second time I made it. The pie crust was too sweet with the spicy meat. I modified using empanada dough. They probably would be good with puff pastry too. They were also too bready for my taste, so I reduced the bread crumbs by half and reduced the broth so that it had a more meaty taste. My biggest problem with this recipe was the "salt". One tablespoon of salt was extreme, and I love salt, but it was way too much. I even tried to fix it by adding more beef, but it was beyond repair. I modified by using just 1 teaspoon of salt.. After making these changes it was really good. Thank you for the basics.

    OK

Rated: 3 stars out of 5
After reading the reviews I thought these would be fantastic. Maybe it was the pie crust I purchased. I did half with pie crust and half with puff pastry. Actually the puff pastry ones were a lot better. The pie crust I used was a little tough. I think you need to make larger rounds. I used a 3-1/2" round cutter which was easier to fill. We even baked them in the grill one night so I wouldn't have to heat up the house.

    Fantasmic!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
The recipe was easy to follow. However, I would maybe try a different kind of crust because I was having trouble stuffing the crust with a nice amount of beef without there being too much crust and not enough meat. I too used a coffee canister to cut the crust. And I too added some cheese to my meat. Aside from that, the patties turned out great! They were soo tasty. I now have a request for them : )

    Big Daddy you ROCK!!!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
What a sweet guy you are!!! I'm so glad you won! These pies were awesome! I didn't have fresh jalapenos so just used handful of the sliced kind in the jar and chopped them up. I didn't have a cookie cutter so I used an instant coffee container lid that was a tiny bit larger than 3 inches,it worked perfectly. For the person who couldn't find the crusts: The premade pie dough comes in a long box... packs of two in the isle at the grocery store that has all the Pillsbury canned refrigerated rolls and cinnamon buns. The pie crusts are rolled up and you just unroll them. Perfect and easy. The eggwash with curry made the pies look shiny and golden, looked like something iyou'd see in a Jamaican deli or shop. No wonder you paid a dollar a patty to the old lady after a night out like you said when you were making them!! I will make again and again. thanks so much for being such a great guy!! Best of Luck in everything.

    Amazing!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made these (minus the jalapeno since dh and the kids don't like the flavor) and added a little bit of shredded cheddar cheese over the meat before I sealed up the patty. I also sprinkled a little shredded cheddar cheese on the top as soon as they came out of the oven. What can I say...we love our cheese. These were a big hit with our family and we will be making them again very soon! Thanks, Aaron, for sharing this great recipe. I really enjoy your show!

They were so easy to make and sooooo good! I used goya empenada wrappers and had some left over filling. I stuffed pasta shells with the extra filling and baked them with red sauce and cheddar cheese. so good.

    Best Patties He Ever Had

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I used ground turkey instead of beef. They were delicious. Next time, however, I will reduce the salt to 1 teaspoon instead of 1 tablespoon in the recipe. I also used only 1/4 cup of bread crumbs and 1/4 cup of chicken broth. I also used my homemade pie crust recipe. My boyfriend is from a Carribean country. He said that they were the best meat patties he ever had. Now that is a compliment!

Followed the recipe, and used my own pie crust. Everyone loved it, I served it for a Malbec wine tasting and it paired great. Passed out copies of the recipe to everyone there.

I follwed the recipe to the letter and this was an absolute HIT! It was a little spicy for us (I used the equivalent of two peppers). My husband loved it with the mango papaya salsa. Great job Big Daddy!

Finally found a great meat pie recipe!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
My husband, being from England and a frequent Cariibbean traveler, is a meat pie connoisseur. He could not stop eating these, in fact I had to give him mine! They were spicy and extremely tasty. Now, I did not use a whole jalapeno because we have two small children and it was still pretty spicy. I can only imagine if I would have used the whole thing! Even the 2 year old basically licked her plate, and ask for more pie as she called it. I am doubling the recipe to feed my husband's poker buddies and don't expect to have any left overs! Well done Big Daddy! My 5 year old and I both love you!!!

    Beef Patties "Rock"

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I am a "foodie" and I collect cookbook, all of the recipes I have for meat patties are very complex. this was easy and great. Just like with any other recipe you adjust to your taste. It was spicy enough for me. I tvo the show so I never have to miss it. Melissa has a long ways to go, but the thing that drives me CRAZY is that she NEVER washes her hands. She wipes them with that damp cloth and then uses the same towel for clean-up. Can you say cross containination!!!!

    Awesome Patties!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
These things were AWESOME!!. I have beef patties from caribbean places and this rivals them but with more beef. I added a little more jalapeno since I love spicy. I did mis-read the recipe and only got one package of pie crust. so I have some left over beef but will be making more this week. It was a quick and easy recipe. Makes nice appetizers for a party.

I fixed the meat pies today with Daisy Martinez's Yellow Rice. What can I say, everything was great. I will be making these meat pies over and over. My first thought was, ooh my. Then I thought, these are great, a nice touch with the curry in the eggwash. My husband and sister also loved the meat pies. This will definitely be a go to dish for me. Thanks Big Daddy, love your show.
