I too made the recipe before it got redone, and it was absolutely horrible. It was far too salty and spicy. I had to doctor it up so much for it to be even edible, and in the end... it was just far too salty and hot. Disappointment.

I loved this soup with all fresh simple ingredients. I would suggest sweating the garlic and onion before adding the tomatoes. I did the research and the vidalia onion is just a sweet onion. Before I served it I threw in about 2 tbsp. of butter which added a wonderful richness and some fresh basil. Next time I'm going to add sundried tomatoes and maybe some cream. Happy cooking and hope my review helped.

I printed this before the recipe was revamped. I made this recipe for my husband for lunch. I was so excited to be feeding him something other than a sandwich for lunch. My back was turned towards him when he tasted it, but I heard him cough. He said it was way too hot to eat. I threw the whole pot away. I will try the recipe again using the the revamped one and let you know how it turns out.

I printed this recipe not knowing that it was eventually revamped. I used half of the red and black pepper that was suggested. My mouth was on fire. I like spicy food but this was awful. I wish I had seen the updated recipe before wasting my time and energy.

I love soups and this one is a keeper! I am glad that I read the previous reviews with the ingredients typos, that saved this recipe for me. One other reviewer asked if anyone had made this recipe with canned tomatoes--I did and it tasted as though I had picked the tomatoes fresh. That was the only change that I made. Great recipe add the Funked Out Grilled Cheese--great dinner!!

I liked the recipe, I followed my gut instincts regarding the amount of salt and pepper, but everything was great! I look forward to trying more of your recipes!

I haven't tried this recipe but had to rate in order to post. I usually tape the show so that I can follow him and not what is posted on food network.com b/c I tried the beef patties from Big Daddy based off the website and it was way too salty. I am also not a big fan of tomato soup but I want to make the cheese sandwich. I will try it with campbell's soup and see what I get and post again if the sandwich is good.

Just tossed the whole batch. $7 worth of heirloom tomatoes, etc.
The quantities for the ingredients are way off. People are trying to save money and eat healthy. You are counterproductive to these efforts, not to mention my blood pressure and esophageal lining.

Wow....Saaaaaaalty!!! And the pepper too!!! We had 5 beautiful tomatoes on the vine perfectly ripe, all to have been wasted! If you use that much salt you need 40 tomatoes!!! This is not the first time Food Network messed up a recipe...Someone needs to proof these!!!
