I made this recipe last night and my husband and I loved it! I substituted the ground beef with lean ground turkey and it still tasted wonderful. Also, to make things go a little quicker I bought instant mashed potatoes and it worked out great and saved me a little time. This will definitely become a regular recipe in our house!

I made these with my little chefs, 5 and 9 year olds. Fantastic flavor and wonderful family time in the kitchen. A couple findings I thought might be useful to some. We tested the orginal Grands as well as the Flakey Grands. The flakey held up better in the muffin pans. I didn't have mashed potatoes and didn't have time to make them so we used "Smileys" for the potatoe part. They are my kids favorites, you get them in the frozen foods where you by fries. Smileys are shaped like a smiling face, crispy on the outside but are mashed potatoes on the inside. We baked them first and then added them just as if they were the mashed potatoes in the recepie. The kids put all the layers together and just loved pressing the smiles down into the par-baked biscuits. I don't think pressing the mashed potatoes down could have been handled by my 5 year old. Please don't skip the fresh herbs they add so much flavor!

I was curious about how the newest Food Network Star was doing, so tuned in. Everything he made looked delicious! I made the shepard's pie tonight and although not a big meat eater, it is the most delicious s. pie I have ever eaten by far. I live in Calif, so had fresh herbs growing outside - I can't imagine NOT using fresh herbs.

This was outstanding - I will make it again and again. I am now a big fan of the show. (And I might add, his little boy is adorable. If he can make this dish, we can too!.

This is an excellent dish to enjoy at your table. Very easy, flavourful and by far the best Shepard Pie I've ever made.
Thank you Aaron and congratulations again on being our STAR!... Looking forward to trying out more of your recipes.
God Bless your new baby girl...
    Warm Regards,
    Tia

My 9 year old son and I made this. He did a fantastic job. I didn't have beef stock so I substituted water, I also used dry herbs. I don't know how Big Daddy's tasted but I can't imagine it being better than ours. Just remember DON'T get the jumbo biscuits.

Lucinda, you pretty much wrote my comment...ha!ha!

I bought the fresh herbs by memory and goofed...I thought it was Basil...so I had to use dry parsley. It did take some time to find the recipe though.

I too made it in a large form....I used a 9x13 pan....still flattened the biscuits and lined the entire pan with them...I used the green container pillsbury biscuits and it took 2 to line the pan.

My husband the finicky eater said "where have you been hiding this recipe". I told him I got if from "Big Daddy's House". That lead to a funny look from him...ha!

This would probably make a great food for a party.

Awesome! I tried to go lowfat and it was SO SUPER! Used 97% fat free meat, reduced fat cheese, low sodium stock and reduced fat buscuits!!! and all the flavor was there! I just added a bit more stock to the meat and used EEVO to cook it in. GREAT RECIPE! THE WHOLE FAMILY LOVED!

I couldn't find this recipe online right away but I made it last night from memory. I didn't do individual ones but the meal turned out fantastic. It was very flavorful. My husband really liked it. I'll try it again and have my 6 year old help me. Very good recipe!
