My boyfriend and I agreed that the recipe as written was alright, but we definitely wanted some more strong cheesy flavors and the nutmeg was way too much. We will be experimenting a bit with this to find the right combination. It did take an extra 15 minutes of cook time as well.

I found these potatoes very easy to make and very delicious. I did add everything like the recipe said. I did salt the potatoes before I put the cheese sauce on though.
I would make these again for sure for my family. Great recipe!!!!!!!

This was an excellent alternative to mashed potatoes for Christmas dinner. The dish kept well in the frig as leftovers too.

I wasn't dure about the nutmeg, but I can't say that I even noticed it.

I really love all of Big Daddy's recipes and enjoy his show! Keep up the good work.

I cooked the dish two different ways for the first time yesterday with friends watching the NFL Playoffs. We gathered weekly all season long, and every week I came to this site to find something unique and fun to make. I was nervous about the reviews after I started cooking the dish. It did not let me down. It was hit! I made it just as the directions said for them, and set the second one in a crock pot for me. The crock pot version had cheese sauce mixed in better then the Aaron version where it appeared more layered. I too will experiment with type of sauce with pasta. I also used half and half instead of milk.

I made the entire dinner from the show and it was a big success in our house. Although, I don't always follow recipes to the letter, I did with this one and it worked out fine. But on the next go around I will be experimenting with this one a little.

Great show, really made us want to try this recipe. Our first time left us a little dissapointed, though. It was too much nutmeg for us. On the second try, we omitted the nutmeg, added some extra cheese (we are cheese fanatics! and sliced the potatoes using a mandolin. Because the slices were thinner, they cooked better. This is my 13 yr old son's favorite recipe. He makes this one by himself. Thanks Aaron for inspiring my son to explore cooking!

I'd have to agree with many of these comments. Yes, the recipe was followed to the letter. The potatoes do not get done properly. The nutmeg amount is at least double what it should be and the cheeses were not quite right for flavor. Everyone at my dinner table was just disgusted by the recipe. If you have had Au Gratin potatoes before, this will not taste close to what you expect and I will surely not be trying anymore of this man's recipes unless all reviews are fantastic. Sorry Mr. McCargo...

I made these potaotes for Christmas Eve. I always make au grats on this holiday and because we love watching Big Daddy, I decided to use his recipe. I have to admit I was afraid in the beginning, but when everyone started eating them they could not say enough good about them. Reading everyone else's comments, I have to wonder what they did wrong. These cooked perfectly and the 20 something people who were here ate them up and didn't leave any for me. I am making more right now.....just for me.

Thank you Aaron for the wonderful recipe. Keep coming up with more.

    THAN\KS, THANKS, THANKS.

Sorry to hear so many of you do not like this recipe. I think the big problem is you need to take the time to slice the potatoes very thin, as they should be and not use as many. I only used a 2.2 QT. glass dish, layered the potoes covered with sause and repeated once more. I did only use one tsp. of nutmeg. The smoked peperkia was just a wonderful taste that made it better than the rest.

I will be made fun of every Christmas from now until forever for making this awful recipe. Never again will I make a holiday dish without trying it first. It was awful--too strong topping, not done potatoes, and no where near cheesy. Yuck!
