I loved this recipe this was the easiest recipe every. Since I looked at the reviews before making it I did change it a bit. First I used a 40oz can of sweet potatoes and two pinches of allspice and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and it came out delish. Loved the simplicity.

This is for Linda who was wondering about the caramel sauce: The caramel sauce was used in the mini sweet potato pies. I also used a tsp. of allspice in this and liked it.

In reading the other reviews I saw that the all spice was not 2tsp but a pinch, so i only used a pinch of all spice. Also knowing that cinnamon can sometimes be too strong, instead of using 1tsp I only used a 1/4 tsp. Also used more sweet potatoes than it called for in another suggestion from another review. Even with all these changes, the recipe fell flat. The spices took over and it just didn't taste the way sweet potato pie should. Will not try this recipe again. Instead I will move onto using another. Disappointed.

Did anyone else notice that the recipe on TV included carmel sauce? I don't see that included on the recipe in print. I added some carmel sauce and cut back on the spices and the pie was good, not the best I've ever had but good.

I baked this pie the other day and could tell just from tasting the batter that the spices were way too strong. I only used 1 tsp. of allspice and it was still too powerful. I had to mix in extra brown sugar, more yams and evern poured a bit of milk into my recipe to neutralize the taste. It still turned out pretty well. Very quick and easy to make and still delicious, just watch out for the allspice!

This episode only recently aired up here in Canada on our Food Network. It looked good so I came here to check the recipe, and saw all of the complaints about how it was spiced.
I went back and watched the recorded program again. On TV, Aaron says to use "a pinch" of allspice...but the online recipe here says "2 teaspoons". No wonder it is waaaay too strong for a lot of people.
All of the other amounts seem right, but the allspice is incorrect.
Please, Food Network...have someone review the comments left about these recipes, and when a problem is found by so many people, take steps to clarify and put the correct amounts up. Especially in this economy, having people wasting food and money isn't a good idea.
Good luck to those who try this recipe out. I'll be doing it myself soon, with the changed allspice amount. :

I have to agree with Aisha. I love Aaron's recipes. Usually. They are easy and delicious. After reading the other reviews I thought maybe I'd misread the recipe. I'm no gormet chef but I can cook and I can follow simple directions. I thought the amounts of allspice and cinnamon seemed unusual. When the batter was mixing I noticed that it was way darker than any other sweet potato pie I'd made or eaten but I gave it a chance because it was Aaron's recipe. It was horrible! I'll stick to my usual recipe or try Aisha's. Have a great day.
