Diane, I agree. I felt the taste was bitter too.
Instead of this fake slaw biz, for a zesty salad with peanuts, try grating carrots and adding lime juice, roasted peanuts, chillies and ginger for some zing.

I made this the other day. I was so excited after watching Aarti make it and it sounded delicious and healthy, so I couldn't wait to make it and ran to the store to buy the ingredients. What a big disappointment. The slaw turned out awfully bitter and sour and tasted bad. The cabbage was sweet as I ate some raw. I allowed the time for the flavors to meld and then tried to sweeten the slaw by adding more honey but alas the whole bunch ended up in our compost.

I wish the recipe was a bit more specific rather than "juice of 4 limes" maybe some additional info in parenthesis as to how many ounces that should be. And I'd like to know how much oil she added. I can always choose to change the specific recipe but it is a lot less mysterious with the precise info. Mine came out very tart so I added more and more and more honey and then the raisins. It did go very well with the pulled pork (for me it was brisket.

Loved this dish. Next time I will use less lime juice and try a different nut, instead of the peanuts. My company loved it and it was better the next day.

Who would have thought to pair green cabbage with green apples and polish it off with fresh lime and honey? Absolutely a new staple for my family. I substitued Agave nectar for honey as this is what I had on hand. I can't wait to try more of Aarti's recipes!

This is a great, light, healthy dish. Tangy enough to go with a roast chicken, light enough to go with ribs!

We made this to go with the pulled pork, and it went with it very well. It was just a bit too tart though; either we had too juicy limes, or we needed to add more honey.
Also, there was a weird clash between the sour in the limes and the tartness of the apples. We're definitely going to make this again, but will probably try it with a Fuji apples over Granny Smiths.
Was good, and worth adjusting to our tastes. Thanks Aarti!

I wasn't sure how this recipe was going to go over but was pleasantly surprised when we loved it. It went so well with the pulled pork that I will definitely be making both of these recipes again. My only suggestion/change would be to leave the peanuts on the side and not add them to the salad if you aren't going to eat it all in one sitting. So far I have made several of Aarti's recipes and loved everyone of them. The foodnetwork did a great job in picking her for their next star!

I love all the things that went into this but found it still tastes a little bland. I may add a little mayo and more of the spices. I also put this on the bbq sandwich and it complimented very nicely.
