I've never had coconut toffee before. Following the directions to a T, my result came out exactly like on the show though I halved it and made it in a 8x4" pan. You have to love sugar to like this. Have just a tiny piece at a time. Aarti was right when she said the texture was addictive-it is! It's crumbly crunchy coconutty. The cardamom is subtle and I used a generous pinch. Just because it's so easy I recommend giving it a go, but be warned that this is really sweet!

I'm not sure why people are hating on Aarti. If you don't like her or her show just...go away. There other shows to watch. Why comment negatively on someone starting their career. How is that productive and helpful?

Growing up, we had 'coconut toffee' whenever possible. We called it 'sugar cake' but it's the same thing. And I can tell you, it is SUPPOSED to be sugary. Thus the name.

My husband and I LOVE Aarti and her show. Every recipe we've tried has been incredible!!!

Just tried making this, following a thermometer and water test for soft ball consistency of syrup. Not enough syrup to bind coconut. After mixing in the coconut, I basically have a pan of coconut that isn't bound together.

    Sigh. Thought?

Its seems childish to just complain about the chefs and receipe. Everyone has different taste. If you like to try the receipe just try it. if you dont then just dont bother. All chefs have their own expertise. Whether is Bobby or Melissa or Aarti. Please learn to apprecite what you see and what the chefs are giving for receipes. If you like enjoy it if not then just dont try it. Why give negative comments about any chefs. All chefs have good and bad receipes. Thank you to all the chefs here.

Let's remember that if you're not into sugar, or are diabetic like me, adjust your portions to what you like or can handle. For me, a nibble is all I get, but what a nibble! Cut your pieces smaller, even as small as a sugar cube, or less. The point is to enjoy!

I loveeeeee coconut halva. I tried this recipe, not impressed.
I liked the way she described the technique, although not everyone uses a thermometer to check the sugar syrup consistency!
Also she could have skipped the pink food coloring and used fresh coconut shreds and added milk powder or khoa. Would have made a world of a difference. The sugar : water ratio was way too high, even for my husband.

No need to be nasty, Stacy. I happen to agree with Jean that Aarti is an absolute delight to watch while I find Melissa less so. If you're a veteran cook, you can always adjust the sugar content to your liking, or don't make the particular recipe you're complaining about. Giving the RECIPE only one star without trying it is mean and spiteful. I did make this whole menu and loved it, even though the coconut toffee is a bit sweet. Of course, if you just read the recipe, you realize that sugar is the main ingredient! Just move on!

I disagree with Jean. Yes this recipe has lots of sugar but it's clearly meant for special occasions. It's easy to make, fun and tasty! I love Aarti!
I've had cardamon in my pantry since Christmas (it was a gift and now I know how to use it.
