5 stars for the flank steak. This was outstanding! I've never made flank steak before that wasn't mostly terrible. This was really awesome and SUPER easy! I've used the rub on chuck steak and roasted chicken. The brown sugar and coffee add rich savory flavor that is quite unexpected. Only 3 stars for the onion compote. Just wasn't crazy about the onions. I made them a second time without putting the lid on and they caramelized nicely.

This was an incedible dish to make. The only thing is that some of the spices were pricey, but well worth it. Make sure the grill is very hot and enjoy. This was a HUGE hit! I also used her rub last night with chicken breast strips in the Wok with stir fry veggies. It was awesome.

So Good! I doubled the coriander and garam masala because my family really likes Indian spices. My husband doesn't like coffee and had no clue it was in there. The onion compote was fantastic! Kids loved it. Used dried unsweetened dates(asian groceryto keep sweetness to our level. Balsamic vinegar made additional water unnecessary. Great with grilled asparagus.

Very tasty, but be aware that if you use an indoor grille make sure your exhaust fan it the type that doesn't just circulate, but vents outdoors. My house was full of smoke within 5 minutes and we had to cook it in the oven

This was excellent; a layering of flavors that was just right. We cooked the meat to medium rare and it was perfectly done after resting. The onion compote was terrific, again a nice layering of flavors. Thankfully I knew from experience not to cover a pan of onions that I was caramelizing; it saves lots of time, but you do have to keep a closer eye on them. The leftovers will become fajitas.

The dry rub for the flank steak was a winner, timing was on the money for my grill pan - med-rare and delicious.
As for the compote, onions don't caramelize with the cover on, and my husband and I agreed that they didn't really add anything to the steak.

I thought this was a really delicious recipe and the spice rub gave the steak a unique flavor. The compote was also tasty, although I will say I also had the problem of my onions not carmelizing. They tasted fine though, but it would be nice if the recipe directions actually worked for that part. Realistically, this would not be a weeknight dinner for me because who wants to have to cook/stir onions for over an hour!

I liked the steak, didn't love it. Served it to my husband who loves spicy food and 17 yr old son. Both of them said don't bother to make again. The onion compote never did caramelize, even after an hour and a half!
