After reading the reviews, I made this sandwich with a few changes. I lightly spread the hoisin sauce on each piece of bread and since we do not like pepper jack, used mozzerella and cheddar along with the ham. I thought it was really good. It added extra flavor that isn't normally there without being overpowering. I always use butter when I grill the bread but I followed Aarti's example and tried it with mayo. What a great trick! I would definitely make this again.

I reduced the hoisin in this to 2 tbsp. as I thought it was too much.
We loved this with the pepper jack cheese.
With the soup, a great new lunch idea.
Thanks Aarti.

My family did not enjoy this sandwich. Too much hoisin and the pepper jack cheese never did melt. It was gooey and it tasted like rye and hoisin - nothing else.
We are going to try this again but with a few changes - 1. slices of pepper jack cheese, 2. spread a very little bit of hoisin directly on the bread. Maybe with those changes this will taste really good.

Not bad, but a little heavy on the hoisin sauce. Guess I like my grilled cheese the old fashioned way. And Kitty...you're an idiot. Make the recipe first before you rate it.

My husband and I did NOT like this sandwich at all.....terrible. The hoisin sauce ruined a good ham and cheese sandwich. I agree with the previous reviewer, however, about Arti....she is wonderful.

Wonderful combination of sweet and savory flavors. Easy to make, but everyone thought I was brilliant. Sorry, I'm not keeping Arti a secret. I'm telling everyone about her terrific personality on the show and her unique brand of cooking.
Must tell the truth, I was getting bored with the same old recipes until she came along.
Really looking forward to her next show.
