I made this dish two nights in a row. We finished the pot the first night and I made more for the the 2nd night. So easy to make and a delicious hit in my house. I added Greek yogurt to my soup at the very end. I don't understand how one reviewer gave it one star. The spices at the end at so much flavor. This will be a regular at my house.

I was a fan as Aarti was going through the challenge, and a bigger fan after trying these lentils! This recipe couldn't have been easier to make. As in her show, I tasted the lentils before adding the oil - they were pretty good. After the oil they were amazing. I can't wait to try another recipe!

We love this recipe, though we had to make a few substitutions. Instead of red lentils, we used yellow split peas--red lentils aren't available in our usual grocery stores, for some reason. Instead of the serrano pepper, we used a habanero--we grew our own habaneros this year, and we like it hot, so why not? Everything else we did was pretty much in line with Aarti's original instructions. Yum, Yum, Yum!! We served the dish with warmed pitas and a dollop of organic plain yogurt on top of each bowlful. The dish is a meal in and of itself. The next night I made baked samosas with the leftovers and served those with a pre-processed sweet lime chutney. You can't fail with this lentil dish.

Good. The usual fare I have had at small meal places in India.

I liked this. I have had so many type of dals that it was difficult to discern what made this one stand out.

No leftovers here! I went to get a container for the leftovers, but they were gone. My husband cleaned them up. Delicious and very easy to make.

This was also my first Aarti recipe. I liked it alot and thought the fresh cilantro at the end really popped all the flavors. I did end up burning my first attempt at the infused oil but got it on the second try. I was surprised that I was actually able to find the garam masala spice at my store she uses in alot of her other recipes. I'm looking forward to trying more of her food.

My first attempt at an "Aarti" recipe. I liked it a lot, fun to play around with spices. I usually make Italian style lentil soup adding escarole at the end, and I still think I like that best, but this was a nice spicy rendition. I used a can of "Rotel" tomatoes with diced chilis..that way I was killing 2 birds with one stone, tomato and chilis in one can.

I made this with regular lentils since the store was out of red... turned out really good! We mixed the leftovers with rice and it makes a warm, comforting meal!

I have been dying to make something of Aarti's recipies and ended up making her lentils because I had everything onhand. I was worried that it would not have enough flavor because it used water and not chicken stock, but the infused oil gives it so much more flavor. However, I think it is the honey at the end that really made the dish. My mom, who has never cared for Indian food even enjoyed it.
