Hi Aarti, I had to write to let you know that I've eaten lentils all kinds of ways and they were always "ho hum" to me. Some get really mushy, like you mentioned on the show, and some hold their shape. But a lentil is still a lentil, and still ho hum....UNTIL you made these fabulous lentils. The recipe was perfect (even if hubby couldn't find red lentils and brought me brown! Bless his heart, he went to two stores and couldn't get the red ones. Anyway, the ingredients in the lentils made them very good, but when the spice magic was cooked up and thrown on top of the lentils at the end, it was heavenly. The cilantro (if you love cilantro like we do topped off the dish and made it more complex and tasty -- up from heavenly. I'm a vegan and am constantly looking for wonderful recipes that fit my diet. Brava to you you Aarti and your Mum.
With the Everyday Lentils, I served two Naan breads. I got this new little infa-red oven that broils and it was the first opportunity I had to use it for broiling. On the Naan Bread, I brushed olive oil and made a mixture of salt, pepper, basil, oregano, cayenne and pepper and sprinkled it over the Naan and broiled the bread. It was perfect with the lentils, and by the way, that little oven (it is a Black and Decker and I am NOT affiliated with them in any way was the best broiler I've ever used from big ovens to little. Rounding out the meal with a salad was a winner. We had a perfect meal with Mum's Everyday Lentils as the star. Thank you so much Aarti. I'm so glad you won and you are a wonderful addition to the Food Network. I loved your Mum's Moo Moo idea to keep her clothes free from odors.

This was amazing. I love Indian food and eat it very often. The Indian restaurant we frequent has this same soup. So, I was excited to learn how to make it. Boy, I was just excited when it was all finished. This recipe is dead on to the one we have eaten before. As a matter of fact, my husband said he likes mine better. Aw, that was such a great compliment, not so much to me but to Aarti. Way to go Aarti! Thanks for sharing this because I absolutely love Indian food. I hope you share more all Indian dishes.

I absolutely adore Aarti and her "POV"-- Her flavor palette is something I have wanted to "know" for years-- and I Am thrilled each week to go out and buy a few more spices to add to my "tin"- I am crazy for lentils and all the types of food choice she makes-- thank you FN for having some vision! Plus-- her food is HEALTHY!

I watched the Next Food Network Star and prayed that Aarti would get the show and this recipe is one of the reasons why! This was easy and tasty. Different from how I usually make red lentils, but my family seemed to like it. I'll make it again for sure.

This is the ultimate comfort food. A previous reviewer said that Indians don't eat pork products, and that simply is not true. Hindus can eat pork; it's Muslims that don't.

Imagine my shock ... face REALLY close to the oil so I could see the very instant it began "shimmering" ... only I forgot about the lone mustard seed I had dropped into the oil (whoops!. Other than hitting my head on the oven hood when the mustard seed popped and oil splattered, this was really easy and quite fun to make. Really delicious too. I used my immersion blender to make the texture smoother, but still chunky. I used 3 serrano chiles, so it's pretty hot, but the flavors are soothing, warm and lovely. The whole house smells terrific. Perfect for the fall weather!

I am vegetarian and I love lentils, but I sometimes run out of new recipe ideas for them. I gave this a try and its just so darn good!
I made them a few days ago and I am making them again today. Hubby even liked them and he is a very picky eater!
Thanks, Aarti, for another great recipe.
