This was delicious! I was a little worried when my lentils weren't "whisk-able" (or all that flavorful after 45 minutes. I really wanted that thick, mashed consistency and spicy flavor, so I continued to simmer for a full hour and a half, and it was worth it! Will make it again soon remembering to allow for an extra hour.

This recipe is awesome! The spiced oil you add at the end makes the lentils very very flavorful.

To be honest, I was a little skeptical of this recipe. But here I sit, contemplating my next bowlful, and my tummy says "Do it!"

If you're looking for a super easy and highly inexpensive dinner, I say go for it.

I LOVE this dish. I caught myself thinking about it days and weeks after I first tried it. I've made it three times since then and I'm never disappointed. I think I could eat it every day even. By the way, adding add some these lentils into other dishes or sandwiches is like adding your own secret ingredient.

I have a love affair with Indian food, but I have never been brave enough to attempt an Indian dish. Well, this recipe seemed easy enough, and it truly was. I must say it turned out to be absolutely delicious! Much gratitude to Ms Aarti, thank you for such a splendid, authentic recipe!

I wasn't a lentil fan before trying these. We now have them frequently. So good!

This was a great recipe! I sauteed the onions - tomatoes a litte before adding the water and the lentils and added a little chat masala I got from this new spice shop in Raleigh - Savory spice shop - They have a website - they have everything! Aarti - if you read this - give me some recipes where you use chat masala as an ingredient! It tastes so good, but all I can find is chickpeas!

This was a great comfort food dish. Easy to make and delicious. I had to add extra salt but that is a taste preferance. I also ran out of serrano chilies so I use some pickeled jalapenos I had on had and it worked out fine. I love Aarti's recipe because even though they are Indian based they arn't overly Indian spiced.

I love Aarti's recipes. The first time I haven't messed up Indian food is with her recipes. I have made this three times. Twice with the red masoor daal and once with the green. Turned out great each time. Simple and can be eaten with rice or naan or pita bread. I have had it as a soup with veggies on the side.
