Wow! A TRUE tasty, filling & healthy meal. It's a little more complicated than my normal recipes, but WORTH it. Thanks Aarti for introducing me to something I would have never tried!

***one note*** recipe says to let lentils simmer for 30-40 minutes after boil is reached. I let mine simmer on lowest possible flame and after 20 min, they were done & starting to fall apart. Just watch the cook time and you'll be fine.

This was great. I doubled the recipe and added a small can of tomato paste for color. Before serving I added salt until it tasted on target. Upon serving a squeezed some lime juice on top of each bowl for added complexity.

Great flavors, particularly the seeds and spices when tempered in oil (first time doing this, easier than I thought it would be and added to the dish. Looks beautiful too, especially all the colors. My only drawback is that my husband and I felt the lentils needed additional salt to our serving portions, even a day after it was made and the flavors had a chance to steep. Not sure if using 1/2 broth and 1/2 water would help in the matter....I would make this dish again, but not immediately.

Absolutely delicious! Authentic Indian lentil recipe and very simple. I never learned how to cook daal from my mom so thank you for showing me Aarti! I substituted the paprika/turmeric part of the "bagaar" with my favorite curry powder and it tasted wonderful!

Amazing recipe and a real Indian recipe for lentils. I however am in love with Indian spice seasonings available at indianfoodsco online and I used their Dal Masala instead of buying spices separately. It came out superb with the modification. Thank you for showing me how to cook the dal. I used it with papad and chutney purchased from the same online store.

This was the first truly Indian recipe I'd ever made and I was shocked at how easy it was. I like a lot of heat, so I typically add a dash of cayenne pepper and I dice two serranos rather than just splitting the one. Sometimes I'll add some frozen peas at the very end to get another veggie in there. I love these lentils and they are now a staple in my house. Thank you Aarti!

Mum's Dal was great, but only one thing makes it an Indian dish, Cayenne pepper, with out a bite to me is not Indian. I felt the curry leaves did not give it the curry taste I like so I added a dash of curry powder for my taste and it was wonderful, I almost ate the whole pot by myself............Don
