This was the first truly Indian recipe I'd ever made and I was shocked at how easy it was. I like a lot of heat, so I typically add a dash of cayenne pepper and I dice two serranos rather than just splitting the one. Sometimes I'll add some frozen peas at the very end to get another veggie in there. I love these lentils and they are now a staple in my house. Thank you Aarti!

Mum's Dal was great, but only one thing makes it an Indian dish, Cayenne pepper, with out a bite to me is not Indian. I felt the curry leaves did not give it the curry taste I like so I added a dash of curry powder for my taste and it was wonderful, I almost ate the whole pot by myself............Don

Some of the best Dahl I've made. I used heaping 1/2 tsp's of the spices and about 2 tsp of salt. Then I put the Dahl over basmati rice with a dollop of sour cream. Amazing!

I had no idea that I would enjoy lentils this much. Thank you, Aarti, yet again for convincing me to try something new!

It was a decent soup that is pretty good for you. It doesn't taste so great but its worth a try.

I finally got the time and the ingredients together to make this recipe. Wow! We were not disappointed. LOVE IT! And it was easy to make. What made it special for me was using cilantro from my own garden for the garnish. I will definitely make it again.

Easy to put together, I let it simmer an extra long time as numerous others suggested. My bagaar sizzled perfectly, watching it closely - and then so exciting when it sizzled so brilliantly when it went into the soup. **JUST LIKE** when Aarti did it. : Maybe I'm easily entertained, but that was FUN! This is truly delicious, just what I want to be able to nosh on through the week. An easy healthful dish I can reheat during the week for quick meals. Warm flavors at first, but then it lingers and becomes a wonderful warmth, just enough coming from the serrano.

Outrageous!
There is nothing I would change in this recipe.
The spices make it something special. Thanks Aarti for sharing your talent with us!
