For me, this is one of those things that sounds a lot better than it is. Mango? Pulled pork? Bring it on! Rushed out and bought some fresh mangos and made a puree. Used two peppers per previous suggestions. Let everything cook low and slow until the meat was perfectly tender. The end result... pork sludge. I made this for the hsbnd who likes meat and 'taters, thinking he would love it. He said it was 'ok' which means it is going to hang out in the fridge for a week or two until I discard it. The flavour was pretty bland and it was far too saucy. The pale, stringy appearance was visually unappetizing which didn't help. I think this recipe is too heavy on the sauce and light on the spices. It was also a bit sweet for my taste.
IMO, for the effort and cost involved in this dish I was disappointed. I know that others have found this recipe 'to die for' so I can't explain it...I guess everyone has different taste.
Meanwhile, I wish the very best for Aarti and I'm rooting for her to be a big hit. While this one didn't work for me I'll still look forward to see what's coming...

dishes that you also cooked with it! My daughter cooked it so perfectly,
and all of her guests raved about it! Thank you and I hope you always
stay on the air! Indian food is coming into style finally!

Everything we have tried so far from Aarti's recipes have been absolutely delicious. The "I ain't chicken, chicken" was to die for and this mango pulled pork has beautiful flavors. I would like to direct this reminder to the people complaining they want "traditional Indian food" recipes, etc (ie, Jean from Arizona - this is just getting ridiculous. Aarti never claimed to have a show featuring strictly Indian food. PLEASE READ the description of this show and I quote (once again "where she shares easy and delicious ways to enhance American favorites with simple but unique Indian influences." Nuff said? We love you Aarti, thank you FOOD NETWORK for featuring Aarti; she is just beautiful, fun, comfortable to watch, and her food is gorgeous and DIFFERENT! We love her!

I started this recipe this morning, used canned mangoes that I pureed instead of "pureed mangoes." The slow cooker bubbled away all day and I just had to shred the pork and take a taste... perfect texture, although in the beginning I thought there was waay too much sauce. Now though, I think the sauce will be eaten and loved by my friends at our shin dig tonight. : Aarti, I want you to make it as big as Bobby, Guy and Giada!!! <3

I saw the show a couple days ago and couldn't wait to make this dish! It sounds fun and interesting. I have to say though, I read a few comments and one caught my eye from null. If you have nothing to say about the recipe, you shouldn't be commenting, these comments are not to talk crap about the chef. If you don't like Aarti I recommend you not use her recipes.

    Worst thing I ever ate.
Mango should be relished the sattvic way. Abuse a mango and it abuses you right back, with compounded Interest.

I found frozen mangoes at my local grocery store. I let it thaw in the bowl of my food processor while I prepped the other ingredients, then pureed it. It seemed a little stiff, but was fine once I added the lime juice. Next time I'll add another serrano pepper and maybe some garam masala. A foodie friend who loves chutney and curries thought it was magnificent. Use smoked paprika--it adds a great depth of flavor.

This was DELICIOUS and easy!! Great job, Aarti!

I read a lot of these reviews - people who are saying the instructions for the sauce are incomplete - you are not READING the instructions. She notes "Add the rest of the sauce ingredients.." which COMPLETES the sauce.

I have not tried this yet, but I think Aarti mentioned using paprika in the rub to add a smoky flavor. However, she does not specify using smoked paprika. I have found that smoked paprika can impart a nice smoky flavor to meats that have not actually been smoked and I'm wondering if anyone has tried this receipe with smoked paprika and if so, what were the results. Thanks!

PS. I give this 5 stars because it sounds so good!

I had a hard time finding Mango puree, so I cooked down Mango Nectar and it worked just fine. I also took her advise and put the rub on overnight before cooking the meat. I'll say it was a tasty treat for the end of the week! Thank you Aarti
