This is just an incredibly watery, thin dal. My husband & I were not fans & I won't be making this again - I'll just stick to making regular dal to my family's recipe instead.

Great taste! subtle but complex flavours. Easy to make.
I also added 2 finely chopped celery sticks to the innitial sautee with the onions; I used peeled canned tomatoes. It took at least an hour for the lentils to soften. I used broth, 1.5 quarts and could have used 2. ( I like thick soups. I didn't have coumin seeds, so I just added 1/2 tsp of ground coumin at the beggining. At the end I added sliced polish sausage which I sauteed for a few minutes in a separate pan.

Mine was certainly not watery. The thick, stew-like mixture was full of great flavor. Biting into whole cumin seeds was too strong for my taste, so next time I might just season the oil, remove the seeds, then add the other spices. Used dried chili padi and canned tomatoes but otherwise followed as written. Tasty!

Very good! Sauteed the onions, garlic, chile, and ginger first. Also used chicken broth instead of water. I was amazed how the addition of honey really made it, don't leave it out!

This was VERY yummy! I tasted and it was very bland. Realized I forgot the salt and honey. It is amazing how those 2 things brought out the flavors in everthing else. I will be making again for sure!

This Lentil soup was very tasty. Lots of layered flavor. I did it exactly as the recipe suggested and it's a favorite of mine.

I just made this soup and its delicious! I recently started getting interested in Indian cuisine, so this was one of my first attempts at it - and it's a win! Even my boyfriend likes it. I sauteed the onions, chiles, and garlic together before starting the soup. I like really bold flavors so I might add an extra 1/4 teaspoon of spices next time, but still has tons of flavor as-is. I also don't agree that you need chicken stock or broth, I used water and it's good, just be sure to just barely cover the lentils so it doesn't taste watered down. So yummy and healthy, I will definitely make again.

Very tasty. I used chicken stock instead of water. My family loved it. Promised my family it will be made time and time again.
