This was easy and delicious and a perfect soup to bring for weekday lunches, a thermos of soup and some naan. Personally, I would increase the spices and / or chiles next time (or maybe leave the seeds in because it was a nice spicy flavor but lacked as much heat as I would have liked. Very good basic recipe to mod and play with though!

Next time i will finely chop the onions and add a little chicken stock during cooking to add some flavor. I also think I burned the cumin seeds. I will contiue to try her recipes. She's a new refreshing change to the network.

I'm part Indian and have always been intimidated cooking Indian food. I have memories of my mother making this as a child and eating it with basmati rice! I used green lentils to avoid the soak time and chopped my onions. I double the recipe and know I will enjoy these left overs! I have a picky boyfriend who actually ate more than one bowl with garlic naan bread and he loved it! Glad Aarti made this look so easy to do and now I have a memory to pass on to my daughter.

I just made this delicious soup for dinner and it is the best lentil soup I have ever made. I think it is the oil and spices at the end that make it perfect! I didn't have red lentils and used the regular ones so I didn't have to soak them. Served it with garlic naan bread I found in my store. Will definitely make again.

Love Indian food. Love Aarti.. You go girl! What a refreshing change for FN. Made your soup and loved it. I used chicken broth instead of water, but otherwise all the same. Used my stick blender and the soup came out a great texture. Can't wait to try your other recipes. Bought all the ingredients for your Bombay Sloppy Joes. Will be making that tonite.

This recipe tastes like Chili!! I love it. I could not find red lentils at my store so I used just the normal lentils. Instead of boiling them in water I used chicken stock and added some carrots and celery. AWESOME!!!!!!

Made this tonight, it was so tasty. I have made 100's of lentil soups and this is the frist one my husband loved. I will definitely be making this again. I have had a problem finding the serrano pepper so I have been adding a jalape?o pepper and some extra cayenne. I am so glad Aarti won. I have never made such flavorful dishes. I am working my way through her recipes one by one.. Thanks so much for picing Aarti, she is a perfect additoin.

I think I whisked the lentils a little too much because I had a cloudy soup, not like the clear'ish broth in the photo. It was good, a little bland but excellent with the naan bread I made on the side. I put the leftovers in the fridge and didn't plan on making it again at that point. I had the leftovers today for lunch and WOW! SOOO MUCH BETTER THE 2ND DAY!!! I will be making this again, for sure! I followed the directions exactly except I chopped the onion. My whole cumin seemed a little too dark after cooking in the oil, I suspected it may be burnt but it wasn't in there very long. Thanks Aarti, I'm glad you won!!!
