This is the dal (lentil soup I have been looking for! I did add a can of tomato paste to add a depth of flavor. Can't wait for winter as I could eat this every day! THANK YOU AARTI! Simply fab!

I made this soup yesterday and thought it was pretty good, but wow! When I tasted it today, I thought it was spectacular. The broth has the loveliest flavor! I would make it again even though I hate red lentils, that's how good it was.

I've had red lentils in my pantry forever. An impulsive purchase because I liked the color, had no idea what I would do with them. I was happy to see Aarti use them but I was blown away by how flavorful and satisfying it was. Thank you Aarti. I've been a food network junkie since the 80's and this is the first comment I've made. You're a bright, talented addition to the network and I look forward to tuning in!

I used the dahl recipe on Aartie's other site, before she won the show and that dahl recipe calls for curry leaves... What can I use instead? Do they come dried? I loved the recipe on the other website but I had to buy two ingredients from the internet - hing and black mustard seeds. My entire family wanted more. I will have to make a double batch next time.

I usually make my lentil soup with green lentils and a slightly different mix of middle eastern spices. This recipe has a slightly different taste and was given a great review by my family (They are hard to please. I reccomend making the recipe as is and not altering it. I will be making this dish again and again. I've also made the green chicken curry. I will be serving this tonight. I will place a review latter this evening. Thank you Aarti!!!

To explain, Jennifer, Indian food doesn't usually use chicken broths or stocks. The water is the stock, and the spices and masalas are what flavor it. I've never heard of a red lentil chicken broth soup. Aarti's basically made a normal daal and upped it by making it into a soup. But I do agree with the chopping of onions than sliced, they're usually chopped. I do really like that she used some honey, my mom tried it and liked it! I would never have thought of that!

I think she is just wonderful and fantastic, I love her. I think some of her dishes are too simple but I suppose she is more about fusion that purity but it is about time the Food Network had an Indian chef to bring Indian food to mainstream popularity. Many people love to eat it but don't realize it's not that hard to make! I'm so proud of her and so excited to see the show!

My kids and I made this tonight for dinner to eat while we watch the finale. I don't understand why it's simmering in water and not broth or stock. I added half low-sodium chicken stock and half water. I think it would have been really bland with just water.I also finely chopped the onion. Slices didn't make sense to me. I wouldn't want to eat long strands of limp onion in the soup. I like how she writes her recipes. It really did "sputter" and "sizzle" when you added the spices and oil. Aarti, quit being a baby and buck up. You have the chops to win this tonight. Now go win!!!

I'm captivated by Indian food thanks to Aarti and have begun trying various recipes. She, particularly, makes the food seem accessible to me and especially appealing. I had no idea how great lentils are for us and they can be made is so many different ways. Loved this recipe and hope Aarti wins so I can learn more from her about this great cuisine.

I've been waiting all summer for a night cool enough to make this soup. I'm so glad it rained all day because this soup was delicious and incredibly easy. I hope Aarti wins. She's the only one whose recipes I want to try!
