Overall, delicious! Prep time was the same as any Indian meal (long!. Although I'd argue that those who tried this as their first taste of Indian food really shouldn't judge Indian food based on this. Yeah, it has garam masala in it, but it's very much "fusion" - if you give up on Indian food b/c of this dish...jeez! As for the smell - well, yeah. I guess if you're not used to it, makes sense. Anytime anyone cooks strong smelling foods (fish, spices, etc. make sure there's lots of ventilation! Also an American-born Indian, I was expecting this to taste more "Bombay", but since I tasted the dish as I went, I added more garam masala and paprika (and more honey to give it more "sloppy joe" taste. I didn't have pistachio but used chopped mixed nuts instead, was perfect.

We made the Sloppy Joe and salad and both were amazing. I was worried I wouldn't like the pistachios and raisins with the meat (we used ground beef but it had awesome flavor. The sweet salad was a great pairing with the spicy kick of the Joes. Can't wait to see what you come up with for your next show.

This was a great recipe! It will now be a regular in my house. Made it for the family first to test it out. Then made it a couple of weeks later for a family birthday party/ Everyone raved about it--even my 90 year old father-in-law (the birthday boy who is a very picky eater. (We had ham also just in case-but everyone wanted the Sloppy Bombays! We ate it on small rolls (like sliders, in flat bread, and my favorite--over white rice. The raisins and pistachios add to the flavor and texture. Love it! Keep up the good work Aarti.

This was a wonderful new twist on an easy dinner. The flavors were delicious. I added more garam masala, and also added ground cumin powder to make it a little spicier. I also used plain yogurt instead of the half and half, and it turned out great. I will use this recipe again! It's wonderful to see Indian fusion dishes

This is such a wonderful twist on sloppy joes! I've made this twice with rave reviews from friends and family. Looks like it will become a staple on the menu.

Very tasty and fun to make. Had all the flavorings you would expect from Aarti.
To the person who said it tasted like excrement of 10,00 dead camels, maybe that is something you ought to try, then you could make an accurate comparison.

I really loved the idea of this but it just didn't work for me (though my husband liked it I'm going to make a few modifications and try it again.
Reasons I didn't like it:
Not enough spices. There are really just a few teaspoons of spices for a pan's worth of filling. I prefer my indian style dishes to incorporate more intense flavors.
Vegetables were overcooked. You start the onions and vegetables well ahead of the meat so, by the time the meat is cooked, the green peppers are mush.
Raisins were greasy. Why not just add them to the sauce to plump? In the recipe you add them to oil--which just made them oily. I'd prefer they be stewed in the sauce to add more flavor.

Absolutely loved this recipe. I've often found traditional sloppy joes to be pretty boring in taste. The recipe may be a little work - really not that bad because the payoff in flavor was so worth it!
