This was an excellent introduction to the Indian world of flavor. My husband and I love to experiment with food, so we were excited to try Aarti's Indian inspired recipes. This one is a keeper! The novel spices are subtle enough that they aren't overwhelming for the beginners, like us. It smelled so delicious and warm while cooking I was hooked. I can't wait to try the pork recipe this weekend.
p.s. For the Indian food beginner like me: I didn't have many of the spices that Aarti works with, so I ordered them in bulk online. Most of them were around 1 or 2 bucks for 1-2 ounce bags @ myspicesage.

We tried this recipe and loved it so much that we decided to make it as a meatloaf. Used all the same ingredients but not as much tomato sauce.
We love meatloaf and want to use turkey but have not found a meatloaf recipe that tastes good with ground turkey. WELL NOW WE HAVE!
This recipe was so moist and delicious as a turkey meatloaf that no one knew it was turkey! I wholeheartedly urge you to try it.

This was easy and fun to make. Whole family loved it, including the picky eater of the house. She wouldn't eat it the day it was prepared, but she ate almost all of the leftovers. Only giving four stars because this was way too sloppy to pick up and eat. We served them as open-face sandwiches and ate them with utensils :-
Can't wait to try some more of Aarti's American recipes with an Indian twist.

Not only is this recipe easy to follow the flavor is excellent and unique. Not what you would expect with Indian cooking. The flavors are mild and not overpowering. Definitely a recipe for Indian cuisine novices. Even people who would not typically like Indian food will love this recipe.

Made the recipe as written and thought it was great. Well, I did use golden raisins instead of regular, but that's the only change I made. Nice to have a little touch of Indian in an all-American favorite. Best part was that my kids liked it, too. My youngest is 6 and she didn't even realize these were any different than the mix from a can I normally make. My husband and I could tell, though. Only negative was that it took a lot longer than expected to make. Next time I plan to make a big batch and freeze it.
So glad Aarti was chosen to do the show! I've always wanted to cook my own Indian food but was a little scared to try because it looked so complicated. Her dishes are a great introduction to cooking Indian flavors at home. This has quickly become my favorite Food Network show.

I made this according to the recipe except I left out the pistachio nuts because I didn't have any on hand. Really great take on sloppy joes! Looking forward to more Aarti recipes!

Yes, I followed the recipe. The only mistake I made was that I cooked the meat with the toasted pistachios and raisins since the instructions were not clear to me. It didn't matter. I suppose the texture would have been better with crunchy pistachios but I would still rate this as a 5 star. The flavor is fabulous. What a treat. And my house smells sooooo good!
