First let me preface my review of this recipe and this show by saying I was a dedicated viewer of TNFNS. I think all three of the finalists deserved to be there.
So I just watched this new show with my wife. My hope was that the direction for the show was going to go in the direction of most of her dishes on the TNFNS and not towards what she did in her "pilot" (Pizza Indian Style. In short, I would love to have someone demystify real Indian cooking for me and show me why this food should be something I should add to my home repertoire.
So, what were the two possible outcomes for the average food network viewer with this show: a. be disgusted by a recipe that just does not look at all appetizing, or b. trust her, make the dish, and be disgusted. Average america does not want their classics made Indian IMO. I am not talking about food snobs in LA and NYC, I am talking about AVERAGE americans.
This show missed on so many other levels as well. The idea of "girlfriends" coming over was completely fake. Every other show that does this actually has the wrap up of the show with all the friends coming together to eat. Instead, we see her gobble up her food before they even arrive.
The food was not easy to prepare as promised. The ingredients are not normally in most pantrys so it cannot be spontaneous, and the cost of the ingredients also could be excessive once one buys all the nuts and spices. Again, not for the average american.
None of this would bother me much, however, if it was a show helping me to get started making Indian food. This is one type of food I have no idea how to prepare and making a white-trash lunchtime classic into an indian version is a disservice to us viewers.

Great job Aarti! You did a fantastic job of presenting your first show. So much confidence, connecting well with the camera. You would have thought this was your 100th show instead of your first one. I look forward to trying all the dishes you made today. Wishing you much success.

First let me say this in response to "linda from kingman az" Pay attention to the tv a little better next time! Aarti wasnt thanking the viewers for making HER show the number 1 show, she was thanking us for making the next food network star show the number 1 show! DUGH!!!
Now that thats off my chest,
I love the new take on the jo's. Americans tend to be bland cooks and this spiced things up nicely. If you have boring hum drum tastes and dont like change, this isnt for you. But for you that embrace it, you will love this recipe!
Im looking forward to more recipes with your spin on them!!.

Aarti, Congratulations!
I like your ideas, American everyday foods with Indian twist to it. I watched you on foodnetwork star competition; I was hoping you would win. You were awesome. I am East Indian and vegetarian, so I like your sloppy bombay joe's recipe, but what vegetables would go best instead of turkey. I am dying to make this recipe; water just melted in my mouth when I saw you make this. Kale salad recipe looked good, and so did pistachio pops or kulfis. I love cooking. Just a tip probably, if you put pistachios first in the pops instead sprinkle at the end when you pull the popsicle, than pour the mixture into the pops that way everything would be set when you pull the popsicle might be better. Just a thought. Also, I just recently learned that kale is so good for your health; so I can't wait to make this recipe down the road also with mangoes in it. I am just wondering in the future shows maybe if you incoprate some healthy tips, such as this item is good in Vitamin A or C, or Omega 3, or Vitamin K or like Indian spices or chat masala are good alternates and healthy say for example instead of regular bought dressing for the salad. Another example is turmeric, indian yellow spice, has so many health benefits, if you give the viewers the health benefits, would be a plus to your show, too. Just an idea. Congratulations, again. I say go Aarti, you are great!!!!!

I have to say first, I totally agree with Valerie...
"There was a lot of talent on this show, but the best three came out at the end, and YOU, my dear, have been my absolute favorite during the entire series! I'm so glad you won because I think that you offer the Food Network more than anyone else in this series could. Your flavorful influences, your natural radiance, and your delightful personality, plus then add in your wonderful accent - they all combine to make me want to see your show every day! You inspire me to connect with my God given essence, my highest self, if you will. Thank you for sticking it out and going the distance. You are an inspiration to so many viewers! I send you my love, hugs, and blessings for continued success! Valerie Garrison Aledo, IL "

At first, He said he didn't like "Indian" food, because he thought everything had curry in it, which of course, it doesn't and here we are with an awesome "Indian" recipe that he loves... ; bravo!

Sorry, not a review of the recipe - I just finished watching the show. Aarti is awesome! What a great addition to the lineup. She will be showing many of us something completely different, and if it is strickly Indian or an Indian take on an American dish like the sloppy joes, we will learn something. And that to me is the whole point - stretch a little, find out what else is out there and what better way than through food. I can't wait to see what else Aarti has to dish up!
