This recipe was quite a bit of work for a cookie recipe, and for that reason I'm not sure I'd make them again, but I found the final result was pretty good and I thought the cookies had a really nice flavor. They also smelled really good after the orange zest and hazelnut was in the dough.

I was just looking through my recipe box for a good cookie to make and came across this recipe I made during the Christmas Holiday. It brought back bad memories of those dreadful cookies. First of all, the taste was really a taste I never experienced before in a cookie. I think the orange zest gave it an unusual dreadful taste. Then the cookie itself had to be exactly the same size both top and bottom layer for it to match after you sandwiched the filling in. If they didn't match exactly, the filling was sticking out of the sides. I will say that the Nutella was the best part of the cookie. I actually threw them all away. My husband who eats anything told me to throw them out. Then I knew for sure I would never make them again.

I tried several new recipes for Christmas cookies, these were by far one of the favorites. In fact, my college son wants them for his birthday instead of a cake. They were quite easy to make- the dough had a nice consistency.

These cookies were a hit at my house and stuck out among all the other boring sugar cookies. The orange zest is the real kicker here, and it gives the cookies amazing flavor and a little something unique. The Nutella, of course, was delicious. The only thing is you have to roll the cookies really thin for them not to be unbearably dense, and also you have to work the dough a little once it's back at room temperature to be able to work with it and roll it out. With a little working though, the dough was wonderful and these cookies are great!

I made both versions of this cookie. The first batch, Hazelnut dough with Nutella filling I included orange zest and wasn't happy with the results. The zest over powered the nutty-ness of the cookie and didn't pair well with the nutella. For the second batch, Pecan dough with Blackberry filling I omitted the orange zest and the cookie tasted delicious! I highly recommend leaving out the zest in both recipes. I discovered that cutting out the centers of the cookie is easier after they have set in the freezer. Also, a thinner cookie will keep the shape of the cut out better, just watch your baking time because they will bake faster.

These cookies are decent, but there was way too much orange zest. It overpowers the nutella. I tried using some raspberry jam in between and that paired with the orange much better. I would make them again, but I''d eliminate the orange zest. They are good on their own (no filling with a cup of tea. My husband and I were really looking forward to this and were quite a bit disappointed.

These were really a hit at my house with the hazelnuts & Nutella. I left out the orange & they were delicious.

I was excited to try these cookies because they looked so yummy on the picture and very festive. I was disappointed in the texture of the cookie. Mine got really hard shortly after taking them out of the oven. Plus, the orange zest really ruined the flavor for me. I guess I am just not a fan in that flavor when it is added to a cookie...it was a nice attempt. I had fun trying something new though. I just won't be making these again.

I tried the recipe last night. I made the dough and left it in the fridge for a few hours as the recipe said. Around 1AM I started to feel strong contractions and my obgyn requested me to go into the hospital. Before my hubby and I left for the hospital I baked a batch of cookies to take with us. By 7 Am all 25 cookies were gone. My husband claimed that he was nervous. I think the cookies were just FREAKING GOOD. Anyway, we got released from the hospital in the morning now I can bake the rest of the cookies tonight and give them a try too!
