1. I cut this recipe in half (I was cooking for 2.
2. I substituted rice wine vinegar (2 Tbs. in place of mirin.
3. I added 1 dried hot chili and 1 sliced clementine for more flavor.
4. Will add steamed carrots, broccoli, and snow peas next time I make this.
Give this one a try and play around with the recipe, it was delicious!

I saw the episode on tv & decided to make it at home. I'm Japanese/American, so I've made shoyu chicken before. This recipe was wonderful! I cooked it w/o the chicken skins. This recipe will be in my "favorites" file.

It looks I joined all the others who watched this episode Sat morning and thought yum.
This recipe can get quite expensive considering the amounts used in the sauce/braising liquid.
Anyway, everyone liked it, but i thought lacked anything special. I would probably cut back on the amount of broth and soy sauce used IF i make it again.

I made this for my family and they were not thrilled with it. It sounded so good.
I did not have the mirin but used white wine with a little extra brown sugar with it . Was real disappointed.

I made this recipe last night and it was wonderful. It has now joined the lineup of other favorites that we have. I have actually passed this on to family members.

I made this last night and had guests over. It is extremely easy and tastes wonderful. It will become a regular part of our dinner rotation. I also happened to have some homemade light Chinese chicken stock on hand so yay, me!

Had a whole chicken in my fridge needing to be cooked today so when I saw this recipe I thought I'd give it a try. My mods were that I used a cut up whole fryer and sherry instead of Mirin. It was so easy and my kids, who don't like rice, ate all of their rice with the chicken glaze on it and asked for seconds. This was requested to be on our regular menu!

I saw Aida make this recipe today and it looked so good, I had to make it. It was wonderful - my kids love it. I used boneless thighs because they were on sale and they worked just fine. Very easy and definitely a keeper. I'll try the sauce with other meats. Thanks so much!
