I didn't actually eat this pie, the people that I made it for used it as sauce over vanilla ice cream...and said that it was almost sickeningly sweet. The liked the orange glaze.
It may have been the type of blueberry preserves...don't know, but I am definately leaving that out ! The only part of this recipe I am keeping is the glaze!

I made this pie for Father's Day and it was wonderful. After reading other reviews that stated the pie was runny I used 6 generous T of Cornstarch in place of the flour. That helped thicken the pie. Also, as the long time pie baker for my family, I felt the crust portion of the recipe was too much so I cut the ingredients in half. It made for a very flaky crust. My son-in-law said this pie goes to the top of the pies I make over my apple pie and fresh strawberry pie.

As a blueberry pie lover I was looking forward to trying this recipe, which is a little different from the basic fruit pie I usually make. The flavor was wonderful, the jam and lemon zest really intensified the flavor of the fresh berries. At the same time, the pie was so soupy and the consistancy so thin that you had to use a spoon rather than a fork.

The taste and look of this pie are incredible. I've never had anything like it. In fact, I didn't really like Blueberry Pie that much until this one.
I do have to agree with the other reviews though that it was extremely runny. I even drained some of the liquid half way through with a turkey baster and it was still soupy. Once I cut it for everyone, there was about half left, so I removed it from the pie plate, left the excess liquid and put the pie in a different container and that seemed to work really well. The filling itself isn't that runny when the pie drains a little.
I tried also using a really thick jam, but it's still very soupy.
Nonetheless, it's absolutely delicious. I couldn't care less about the soup it made.
Thanks for the recipe Alex!

The taste of this pie is Amazing!!!! The only problem is how runny it is. I even put it in the fridge overnight to see if that would help and it didnt. Alex- if you read these reviews will you please write some recommendations to fixing this problem???
Dont listen to the person that said it was gross, i can assure you thats its amazing! i ending up just spooning it over icecream!

I'm shocked that the thickening agent was completely forgotten in this pie. I cut into it at our special family dinner and it ran out all over the table. It had a terrible flavor and way too sweet. I fully intend to try to salvage the rest of the pie for the sake of the beautiful blueberries. I'll try another blueberry pie with cornstarch added so it will stand up when it's cut into slices.
I'm so disappointed. It was like blueberry sauce over the ice cream. Not good - not good at all. Don't even try it.

I read the comments of others before I tried this recipe yesterday. I took thier advice and added (to a half recipe because it's just the two of us 3 tablespoons of cornstarch. That took care of the soupy problem. So use 5-6 tablespoonsful for a full recipe. The orange glaze added a pretty topping to the pie but no real added flavor; so it could be skipped. And the crust was nice. The blueberry flavor sood out the most! It was quite lovely.

This was my first true homemade pie. (I have been cooking for years but wanted to try something totally from scratch. Firstly, this pie had an amazing flavor. If you like blueberry, you will love this pie. Very intense blueberry flavor and the crust was tasty and pretty BUT...and this is a HUGE BUT,when I cut into the pie, it was nothing more than soup. Blueberry Soup. The juices completely saturated this pie. I couldn't eat it on a plate, it was in a bowl for sure. I even had to use a ladle to get it out. Great flavor, but nothing more than soup. Star rating is for the lack of "pie" quality.

Shoot! I want to give this thing 5 stars for the flavor because it really was outstanding, but it is not pie. It is so so so soupy. I'm thinking that the intention of the jam was to help thicken, but with so many variations in brands of jam I'm not sure that works. The flavor is just perfect. The orange glaze is such a great touch. I will experiment with flour or some other thickener in the future. I won't give up on this yummy pie. I'd just love for it to have been more pie and less...sauce.

The flavor of this pie is outstanding. The orange gloss on the crust was a great idea and totally compliments the lemony/blueberry filling. I think the jam was also a great addition, however it did not do enough as a thickening agent. The pie was a little runny which I didn't mind so much, but my wife had a real problem with. Next time, I'll add a little cornstarch to thicken it up and please the boss : Also, I might omit the top crust and do a struesel or crumble topping or make more of a cobbler. That might work better with a thinner filling.
