I tried this recipe and it did not turn out like Alex's. The cooking time was wayyyyy off....it needed to stay in the oven much longer than the time specified and it did not brown up or turn out of the pan like hers did. It tasted great but did not look like it did on TV. Had to spoon it out of the pan also. Not sure what went wrong other than I used margarine since I have never used real butter.

This recipe is good. Pretty much a std. Spanish "tortilla". This is good hot or serve at room temp. as Spaniards do. Next time you want to comment, phxtopdog, comment AFTER you make it. I'm sure on most recipes there are diffs. from show to the written recipe, but some of those diffs. don't matter. Once you make the recipe you understd. that. ie who cares if she threw the milk solids out or used them for another recipe. Probably said she would use them later because this is a show on penny pinching meals---so she's not going to say throw anything away on the show.

I haven't tried this recipe yet, but just watched Alex prepare this dish on her show. (I gave a 3-star rating only because you cannot post without a rating and 3-star would average out to be most fair. The instructions here differ considerably from the way she demo'd it. First, she did NOT peel the potatoes...in fact, she commented on how the thyme would compliment the flavor of the skins. Second, she did NOT discard the milk solids from the clarified butter...she stated she would use them later, although I missed what she did with them. Third, she did NOT return the potato cake to the skillet and place back in the oven. She simply removed the cake from the oven, poured off the excess liquid, loosened the edges with a spatula, and then inverted it over a plate. When she removed the skillet, it was beautifully golden. I do intend to try this recipe and I'll come back and report my results.
