I cannot agree with the other reviewers who claimed this is the best tomato soup ever. It's good but is messy to make and way too time consuming for tomato soup. Frankly, after eating some of it as soup, I served the rest over pasta and melted the mozzarella over the top.

Oh my god...I just registered to comment on this recipe. Been using the food network for recipes for YEARS and this recipe finally made me register so I could comment.
This soup is AMAZING in a word. Alex is amazing!!! I now have to try her other recipes. This soup is so comforting, and the most delicious homemade tomato soup I've ever had. The combination of fresh tomatoes and canned tomatoes is PERFECTION! I had to use onions instead of shallots because I didn't have any in the house, but I'll try with shallots next time....this has been added to my recipe book for GOOD!

Super! Alex, PLEASE do your own cookbook -- every recipe of yours that I've made is absolutely great. I'd love to have them all in one cookbook.
