Agree with Jratliff's comment. Melissa DA' is not worth watching. Her knife techniques and talking really annoying and we don't need her baby steps. Sorry.

I have never made spare rib on the stove top, only in the oven, and let me tell you that this dish was sooooo delicious, definitely must do over and over again.

I have never made spare ribs and I was delighted with this recipe. I read the reviews and followed a couple of the suggestions for modifying the recipe. I added the chili flakes and additional sugar & honey. The most important deviation from the recipe was after the 40 minutes cooking time, I put the ribs on the bbq for 10 minutes...adding some of the sauce & turning once.

Did not work at all. I made exactly as directed. The sauce NEVER became what it was in the video or pictures. The ribs stayed pale even after the honey was added. It never came close to becoming a glaze. I had to use a backup plan and use an all together separate store bought barbeque sauce to save the ribs

My family and friends loved this recipe. My husband said it tasted like his father's ribs. His father died before passing on the recipe.

The only reason I don't give it one star is that this recipe sounds so amazing! The problem I have is that I am sitting here comparing the recipe online with the show going, and they are two different cooking techniques. The online version says to simmer the sauce before adding the spare ribs, where I just watched her mix up the sauce in a large bowl and add the ribs, coating them, then putting them in a cold pot, turning on the heat to low and bringing it to a simmer, saying to not open the covered pot for a while. I would probably go with how she did it on the show and see how it comes out compared to the recipe directions on this site.

I cooked this recipe for a Family get-together and everybody loved them. Now, I have to cook them every time we have a party.

The ribs were wonderful, tender and flavor to the bone, the only change I made was added red pepper flakes because I love spicy. I plan to try it with chicken wings

Fabulous. The supermarket sawed the baby back ribs down the middle, so I might not have had quite the size pieces that Alex did, but it was close. I followed the recipe with a couple additions based on prior users' comments-- I added a little more sugar, honey, and just a bit of cornstarch mixed with water at the end. It was just the proper consistency. The flavor was just great, and the ribs were very tender (I left them to cook for an extra 30 minutes just to be sure. Glad I had dark soy sauce in the cabinet- I think that's required here as the recipe says. Pretty easy to make this one!
