Really disappointed in these...was looking forward to trying something different in the way of whoopie pies but, these were not only very time consuming, but not that tasty...sorry Alex, won't be making these again...will stick to the old "Stoddard Bakery" recipe I've been making forever.

I was a little bit disappointed in this recipe, because the cake was a little thick and dense; it did have good flavor though. As for the filling, I guess I was expecting a better tasting filling, more like a frosting, not a custurd. I just barely had enough filling for six pies. Not sure I will make these again.

Excellent Dessert! These were not too difficult to make, and tasted wonderful. I thought the cinnamon and lemon zest added a lot of flavor and diversity to this cookie/cake, except I might add a little less cinnamon next time. I also did not have Dutch processed cocoa, and had to use regular. The results were still great!

Having grown up in Pennsylvania Dutch country I ate a lot of whoopie pies as a child. When I saw this recipe I was excited to try a sophisticated version of a childhood favorite. The cookies were okay, although I agree with an earlier review that the addition of the lemon would be something I would probably leave out if I were to make these again. The cookies were definitely better right out of the oven. I filled them the following day and the texture and flavor didn't hold up. The filling was the most disappointing part of this recipe. It was more custardy than the traditional filling I am accustomed to, which is fine, except that when the pies were filled the custard wasn't thick enough and some oozed out of the pies, although they were absolutely cooled when I filled them. Possibly I didn't cook the custard hard enough, but I expected it to thicken a bit as it cooled, which didn't happen. I don't like to give bad reviews, but this took some work and wasn't worth it in the end.

I did not care for these cookies. I think the lemon in the chocolate is what was unappealing. Leave out the lemon zest and I think the flavor would improve greatly. It's probably just a matter of personal taste. LOL I can hear Alex saying something like "the lemon brings a brightness to the flavor of the cookie" or something like that. I just don't favor lemon in my chocolate.

These cookies are delicious! They are a bit time consuming and I piped the batter onto a baking sheet so that I could get perfect circles and control the size. The filling taste good but it has kind of an unappealing and lumpy look to it.

These cookies took some time to put together, but they are good. One tip 2 inches of uncooked batter makes them quite large! Happy eating!
