These are the best tasting gingerbread cookies I have ever had. They are good plain with no icing and even the burnt ones I made taste good.

I have received amazing comments about after making these cookies for people. Many were.."these are the best gingerbread cookies I have EVER had", "These are so good I can't stop eating them"...and so on. Make them and see for yourself...and they are very easy to make.

This is, by far, the best gingerbread cookie I ever tasted. It had a complex, sophisticated and yet homey flavor. I live at 7,000 feet, and so I refrigerated the dough overnight (Hey, every little thing I do to increase success with baking, is important, wrapped into 3 portions. I rolled them out between 2 pieces of wax paper, and had no problems with stickiness. The icing too, was flavorful, and after decorating, set up to become firm enough to stack. Measure ingredients carefully, as I did, because the flavor balance is superb. Wonderful! Thank you, Alex!

Very delicious and somewhat easy. Had a hard time with the electric mixer because the batter became very heavy and some of the butter and sugar batter started to harden at bottom of bowl so I alternated the wet and dry ingredients as I went. Other than that, great cookie. And the frosting is amazing. Kids couldn't get enough of it.

The dough was very sticky, even after refrigerating for a day. I thoroughly floured my countertop and rolling pin and basically kneaded flour evenly into the dough until it was closer to a "roll out" dough consistency.
With regard to the flavor, I felt that the molasses was too overpowering. It was difficult to enjoy the cookies with such a strong bitter taste, but that could have been because of the brand of molasses I was using. I may try this recipe again, but cutting down the molasses from 1/2 cup to 1/4 or less. Given how sticky the dough was, this may also solve that problem.

This makes the most outstanding gingerbread I've ever had. The fresh citrus is what puts this recipe over the top. It's not an overpowering taste, but rather an afterthought of orange and lemon. My husband, who is a diabetic, is going to literally kill himself eating these. He usually has great willpower, but he can't keep away from these! I will make these every Christmas from now on.

I love the flavor of these cookies! They have sufficient spice and the orange flavor is very subtle, but perfect. I found cutting out the cookies to be laborious, but has nothing to do with the recipe. I made a few (from the scraps just rolled into balls and slightly flattened with a fork - they were yummy, a little more chewy. I would make them again, but not roll & cut into shapes. The only change I made was use 1/2 ground ginger & added chopped candied ginger.

My daughter and I made this recipe. My husband is not a ginger fan, and usually when I make any kind of cookie, he insists I take them to work so that he won't eat them. He loved this cookie, and wouldn't let them out of the house. It bakes up moist and soft. The orange frosting is a perfect complement to this delicious cookie.
