In response to Turquoisecat's question regarding sour cream brands that don't have quar gum or other binders, Trader Joe's brand organic sour cream doesn't have guar gum or carageenan, and also has great flavor. Whole Foods or other stores that carry natural/organic dairy products would be another good place to try, but if you live anywhere near a Trader Joe's, try their organic sour cream -- the best I've ever tasted. I used it for this homemade butter recipe, and I'm sure it's one of the reasons the flavor was so superb.

That was so much fun! So easy and so tasty too. We've decided we'll be making fresh butter every weekend. Absolutely wonderful on crusty toast with nooks and crannies. I may put some herbs in half of it next time.

This was absolutely awesome. My daughter watched me make it and wants me to do it for her show and tell at school. I agree with the other person that said to keep an eye on it at the end. It went everywhere....what a mess but worth it. Yummm!

I grew up on a farm and had forgotten how much better homemade butter is to store bought. Of course, we didn't have the mixer, just a churn. Or the little kids would roll the mason jar between them until it was butter. Thanks, Alex, for the tasty reminder.

********.....<- Those are more stars....I forgot how delicious homemade Butter is...I had been thinking about it for a while... I bought King Crab Lags for Lunch and decided to go try the butter thing...It was incredible ... I steamed the Crab and melted the butter ... in a suace Pan ... I was amazed how little butterfat was in the pan ... and no excess liquid... The taste was superb...I also tried it on Idaho Baked Potato...perfectly cooked skin rubbed with Olive Oil....Mouth watering...Thank You sooo Much ...and Sorry Land-O-Lakes ,,,CYA....

I never knew making butter was so fun and so easy! It felt almost like an experiment because I just couldn't picture how whipping cream could possibly turn to butter. I make homemade whipped cream for all my desserts so it was neat seeing what difference a few more minutes and zero effort does. The taste is completely out of this world! I sprinkled just a TINY bit of salt while it was towards the end of mixing. I didn't know if that would affect the way the finished product turned out but it doesn't. All in all, another AMAZING recipe from good ol' Alex. It's as easy as she makes it seem on tv.

I haven't try this yet. But I would like to know what brand makes sour cream without the guar gum? Does anyone know?

This was so easy to make and the taste is just WOW! True pure butter! Took me back to when I was a child and my mother would purchase homemade butter from a couple that lived in the country. Their butter had a unique taste but may have had something to do with what their cows were fed. But this is just pure goodness...can't resist making homemade bread in my bread machine to go with this!
Love Alex and her style of teaching...very subtle.
