The only thing I will say about these is that they are a keeper! Before you make them make sure you have time to do it (I had a snow day, so I had time!...from start to finish it took me over 3 hours. The only thing I didn't have for this recipe was the bread flour...so I used all-purpose flour and they STILL came out perfectly fine! I used cinnamon/sugar for some of them and then made a simple chocolate glaze for the rest of them. My family loved them and when told it would be made for special occasions only, have requested them for their birthdays!

I also made the Cranberry Jam...it turned out pretty good. I didn't have an orange handy, so I zested and juiced a grapefruit for that part. I should have stopped there and NOT added the rest of the orange juice, because it made it even sweeter. Oh well the kids liked it and that's what counts!!

I was hoping for a recipe for the light airy doughnuts you find at Winchells or a bakery. you know, the raised, glazed doughnut. This recipe is for a bready heavy doughnut. This recipe would be good for making the apple fritter type. Very disapointing for us.

First, I would just like to say how much I enjoy watching Alex on her new show! It's a whole side of her I have not seen (I have only seen her as a judge.

Second, for the people who are SO UPSET about the "greasy" breakfast foods....Come on guys. Alex isn't telling you/us to eat like this all the time! I probably cook a family breakfast once a month! And, yes, we like to splurge and have something really sinful! And believe me the donuts were sinful! It is nice to see some recipes that are not completely off the top gourmet!

Third, If you can't take the "grease" ~ GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN!!!!

I can't wait to watch Alex next week!

I find it interesting that the two people from CA are upset by the way it's prepared...good grief...Paula Dean said it best on the Oprah show when asked about all the butter she uses......her comment was "Honey I'm your chef not your doctor!!!"
Plus any good cook should be able to adapt a recipe to meet their dietary preferences rather than criticize others....

    Go eat a rice cake!

I made these doughnuts last night and found them to be the airiest, lightest, most golden and beautiful doughnuts I've ever made. They puff up like magic when they hit the oil, and cook inside and out very evenly and quickly. Be sure to follow the directions, without distracting yourself like I did, or you'll have a bubbling over bowl of yeasty starter that makes a mess if it flows onto kitchen towels. I didn't make the jam or use the cinn-sugar, but these doughnuts are now my favorites on file, and probably will be for a very long time. **These are not cakey**

These were my first attempt at making doughnuts. They were a hit! The dough was really watery so I had to add about another cup of flour. And the only other problem was with the frying which was probably my fault. The inside was still a little gewy and the outside was crisp, maybe next time I will turn down the heat a little.

As soon as I saw what she was cooking and the way she was cooking it, I knew some people where going to have a problem with it. I happen to like the way she cooked her whole breakfast, is the way we eat in my home, with wonderful flavors, I have tried some other recipes from other chefs on food network and I can tell you they are bad tasting to us any way, the way my family puts it " nice tried but don't make that any more". I have wasted lots of time and money. The way Alex fried her eggs is the way I do it. If you don't like her ways don't watch her or make her recipes, I know I will and so will my daughters and friends. We all don't have the same taste.
