This was SO good with the spicy pork meatballs - I made about 20 meatballs and with the leftover pork I made 3 small burgers, grilled them, put them on a Kaiser roll and used just the sauce - no ketchup or mayo.... Man-O-Man was that good.
I also made my daughter a meatball sub with the sauce for work the next day and she loved it !
My hubby and I had the meatballs and sauce the next day over whole wheat linguini. I added another can of fire roasted tomatoes and OMG, I can't say enough about this recipe. This is a real keeper.

I've made this twice now. First time, LOVED it, but my kids didn't like the big chuncks of onions. Whatever! My hubby and I loved it! The second time I made it, I put in crushed tomatoes instead of whole and then I used my hand blender to make a sauce and threw in the meatballs. I served it over french bread and all my kids and husband ate every last bite!!!! Soooooo yummy, it was CRAZY!! Thanks Alex!!

I wanted a meal for 2 so I cut the recipe in half. It came out fantastic but be warned if you don't like spicy, cut down the crushed red pepper significantly. I used less than half of the listed amount and it was still very hot. My other variations were that I used half of a medium sized onion and only added water as needed.

    Definitely worth trying!

I followed this recipe exactly and it came out too runny and no depth., I ended up adding ac couple of tablespoons of tomato paste and a half cup of good red wine to give it some depth but it is still blah. I also ended up pureeing it a bit before adding the basil because the onions were still dominating the sauce. Also, II used 2 1/4 tsp of red pepper flakes because I like some heat but it is way to spicy to serve my 11 daughter and her friend who was coming over for dinner. I am sticking to Ina's meatball and sauce recipe. Sorry Alex, I really love your recipes but this one isn't one of them!

Made this twice...at the same time but with two separate pots. Pot #1...exactly as recipe describes. Pot #2...exactly as recipe describes BUT replaced regular white sugar with dark brown sugar. Both were terrific and so easy to make. Alex...thank your mother for me. Flavor and ease.
