I made these rolls for my first time, for our Christmas dinner. Followed the directions exactly. They were AWESOME! and people were eating them for desert instead of pie or cake! I read the reviews AFTER making the rolls. I have a few things to say: First, just because someone always made rolls differently, doesn't mean THESE won't work as directions state. They DO work. I added all the sugar to bloom, it worked. My dough doubled in size in 1.5 -2 hours. These ARE a heavier dinner roll, not a light "bread" roll. We LIKE them that way. I used a 1/4oz packet of yeast. I am NOT a bread maker and this recipe worked very well. So what I'm saying is: YES, this recipe works as indicated. CHECK your temps when raising your doogh and CHECK your dates on your yeast. I think this recipe deserves 5 stars rather than 4 just because they deserve it!

I made these yesterday for Christmas dinner. When I took them out of the oven 12 disappear in 5 minutes. We ate every last one. My only concern is they were a little undercooked in the middles. It began to rain and we had very high humidity. The dough was sticky and I had to add a lot of flour to the mixture. Anyone have any suggestions on making bread on a humid day? The taste was amazing. I ll definitely be making again.

I wish I could rate this recipe with 10 stars! I made these for the first time on Thanksgiving and they turned out delicious. Not quite as perfect as Alex's but still delicious. I'm not good at making homemade rolls but these were pretty easy to make!

So easy for the Holidays and tastes wonderful! This is a staple for Thanksgiving bc you can freeze in advance and they taste like you made that day.

Absolutely fabulous! Am married to a baker who said these were so delicious. We lost our long used "Lena's Rolls" recipe which I have used for 45 years...just disappeared. Anyway, this recipe is a wonderful replacement. So tender and I love the soft dough texture after the rising. Did not spread butter on top nor did I use the added salt. They were a hit for the group at Thanksgiving this year!!

These were so good! Hubby and I made them for Thanksgiving and EVERYONE loved them. We made two batches and they went quick. I lost my dough hook and used the paddle mixer and it turned out fine. I microwaved a cup of water for a minute. Removed it and placed the dough bowls with a towel over them and left them there to rise. Exactly two hours later they were perfect. We cut them and wrapped the pans with saran wrap to travel for an hour and they turned in to wonderful monster rolls. We cooked them for exactly 18 minutes and brushed with garlic butter. I love thick soft bread and these fit the bill exactly. Next I will roast garlic cloves and blend them in butter to brush over the top.

My son and I made these for Thanksgiving. Made the day before and covered tray w/plastic wrap, refridgerated overnight, let come to room temp next day, and baked. OMG!! Everyone loved them. They are really good!! I melted butter and poured it over the rolls..it seeped in between them..getting absorbed..little salt on top..awesome. Dense roll. Easy to make. Yum......
