I just wanted to say that I have noticed that Food Network does change the recipes from the shows quite a bit!! It is very disappointing. I went to the Ciao Italia site and got their recipe. I got my tastebuds set for the Sfogliatella, but wasn't gonna try this recipe after reading the reviews! Thanks for the tip,Savouries! Her (Mary Ann Esposito site looks great!!

Just saw the Italian Dinner show, Alex, and found you making my most favorite pastry. But, after reading the recipe, I read the reviews. How disappointing!!! Why would Food Network repeat the same version of this show if they've read any of the reviews? Shame on all of you! :~(

try Marianne Esposito's recipe from Ciao Italia instead....I have noticed differences between Alex's tv recipes and the printed recipes here many times...something's not right :-(

This recipe is completly wrong and someone's head should roll! I can't believe that Alex or the food network didn't take the time to check it out before putting it on the air. After spending several hours and several dollars on the ingredients, I made the recipe twice and both times it was a joke. Nothing like what Alex ended up eating on her show. The filling was great but the rest was nothing like what I was expecting. Alex and the food network should watch a video on u tube and see just how this product is made.

this recipe is NOTHING like she did it on the show. its completly wrong! Alex you need to look over this and have food network fix it. it is way off. the only reason i gave it 2 stars is because at least you can watch the video and fix the recipe your self. WATCH THE VIDEO AND WRITE IT DOWN AS SHE DESCRIBES IT!

No way is this a recipe for sfogliatelle. I don't know where that photograph came from but it sure did not come from this recipe. First of all the recipe does not match the ingredients she uses in the video. Once I had that in sync, I tried the recipe. Well it came out nothing like Ferrara's or Luigi Alva's pastry and to be honest, this recipe should be named Empanadas because that is much closer to the final pastry. What a huge waste of my time!!! After this disaster, I searched Youtube to see how they make these and the process is 100 times more difficult than she made it. I'm with one of the other reviewers: "Next time you get a day off, go to the beach". Or at least. spend a few days in one of the pastry shops to really see how to make these. GET A GRIP ALEX!!!!

This recipe is terrible... I could have done better with what I learned on youtube from videos without recipe specifications, but I followed the recipe nonetheless. I really wish I had read the other reviews as well before I used this recipe. Thumbs down :/

This recipe turned out disappointing for me as well. I'm no novice to cooking. I saw the video and read the recipe. Alex's video instructions were very different from the written recipe offered. In reading to the end of the recipe, it states that Food network altered the recipe for better results, which could be the probem. The filling was very tasty, but the pastry was not flaky, layered or crispy like it should have been. This is one of my favorite pastries, and I have had it at several bakeries in Little Italy as well as at Ferrara's. I should give Alex the benefit of the doubt and follow her video instructions precisely instead of following the altered Food Network recipe. After all, Alex was taught by the Ferrara's. I don't understand how Food Network can take a chef's recipe and alter it. It's not fair to the chef.

I have to say I was really disappointed in this recipe, I say that with true conviction, I tried it not once but, 3 times!!!! This is one of my mother in laws favorite desserts, so I wanted to make it for her birthday... I love other recipes from Alex, but this one was really bad. Food Network should not have altered, or deleted information from this recipe.. I am still in search of a true representation of this pastry. I have tasted it in NY, I know what it is suppose to taste like!
