This review is for the frosting only. It was so delicious when first made but when I ate it the next day, it was grainy, did I do something wrong?

This cake was ok. It had a good flavor but my family and friends found it a little dry.

Wow. The cake itself is really delicious and dense. I would totally make this again. Didn't make the frosting because I didn't have all the ingredients. Just made a basic cocoa powder, powdered sugar, butter and vanilla icing. My brain had a chocolate malfunction. :

I thought this was good, but too much work for the result that I got. Be careful not to chop the chocolate too coarsely, or else you'll have blocks of chocolate inside your cake.

This was the first "from scratch" cake I have ever made and it was a huge hit! The chopped chocolate added a great chocolate flavor without big chunks like if you used chocolate chips. However, I'm sure they would be a fine alternative. The texture was great, not too heavy. As other reviewers said, my layers were also done in 35 minutes. I used a recipe for a simple chocolate icing instead of messing with egg whites, but I may try that time, as I will be making it again!

Perfect! Vanilla and butter flavor, and very moist! I actually made cupcakes instead of a whole cake. I omitted the chocolate chips to just use the butter cake base. Anyone that ate one thought it was delicious!

Wonderful and Delicious cake!!! Very tasty, sweet enough to perfection, very moist and very dense which that makes it different. I Made this cake for my Twin girls 1st Birthday and it was a hit. But, Instead of the marshmallow frosting I made a buttercream acing for my Birthday decoration. What u really look for on a real original old time cake recipe.... A slice should be enough to feel super happy and not to try to eat the whole cake. As seen now in days, the cake are much lighter and fluffier, which it doesn't seem to get enough of them... Pretty much u eat more then one slice every time, then feel guilty. Well!!! This cake does the opposite of that, so.... Just enjoy!!!!!

I used cake flour instead of all-purpose flour and the cake came out much lighter and fluffier than the first time I made it with just all-purpose flour. I also used mini chocolate chips and it worked just fine!!!! I love this recipe and the marshmallow frosting turned out beautiful !

I made this tonight (along with the duck and lentils for my 10 years old's birthday. She saw the episode with me and insisted on this entire dinner. (she likes how Alex always looks at the camera and speaks slowly. She said, 'I bet Alex is a good mom." LOL The cake is already gone, everyone had more than one piece. It's wonderful with coffee. One of my guests said the cake tasted something like sweet cornbread but that's why it's so wonderful! It's not overly sweet but paired with the frosting (which takes a LOT longer than 3 minutes, more like 20 but it's WAY WAY worth it it's a perfect piece of moist, slightly chocolately dessert. I highly recomment it.
