This pie sounded so good to me. I made it, but left the sugar topping off...BIG mistake! It was way to tart. I'm going to give it another shot this year and make it the right way.

I made 5 pies for Thanksgiving and this one was the most favored...it reminds me of a French tart...it is awesome!

The filling is FANTASTIC! When reading the recipe, it seems complex, but it's just a few easy steps prepared seperately! YUMMY!

A beautiful pie, tasting as good as it looks.... My 76 year old father is an apple pie aficionado, so when I suggested a cranberry pie he totally balked. I made it anyway and coaxed him to try just a small sliver. That first pie lasted all of a day and since Thanksgiving he's wheedled 2 more pies out of me!

I thought that sounded very delicious because of the pears in the pie. I have always wanted to find a recipe that used pears, because I LOVE pears. While I was putting the pie together, the smells coming from the kitchen were incredible! So, I was extremely eager and excited about sinking my teeth into this pie on Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, I found the cranberries overwhelming. I liked the flavor when it was mixed with the pears, but let's face it, this is a cranberry pie, so you don't get the wonderful flavor of pears in every bite. The cranberries, by themselves, were much too tart, even with all the amount of sugar that was in the recipe. But, I do love the idea of a Pear-Cranberry Pie. "Pear" is more the flavor I would like to bring out into the forefront. So, then next time I make this pie, I am going to quadruple the pear mixture, and use only a quarter of the cranberry mixture. Then, I believe we truly will have an absolutely divine piece of pie!

I LOVE AG, but this recipe was followed out the window, and the finished result went out the window, as well. I watched Alex make this pie, and thinking it would be a treat for the coming holidays, immediately went out and acquired exactly what was needed to duplicate her recipe. The crust rocked: the filling failed. We found the pie far too tart - even with the recommended amound of sweeteners. It looked absolutely beautiful coming out of the oven. I'm never afraid of the unusual, but this simply did not work. But I do love AG!

We really did not like this pie. The cranberries were much too tart. The pear part was good however. I accidentally only used 1/2 the cranberries and it was still too much.

I'm honestly surprised at all the great reviews this pie got! I made it for thanksgiving 2010 and I thought it was terrible. It was super sour!! I'm not sure if it was maybe an extra bitter batch of cranberries that I bought or what. I am a baker, I love to make desserts, and this was the first recipe I can say I will definitely never make again. It was easy to make and beautiful to look at so I was extra disappointed. Don't think I did anything wrong, but perhaps I did! Regardless, it's not a recipe I would recommend!!

I am a horrible crust maker, but this was the best tasting crust I've ever had, professional or not. I bypassed the sugar on top as my husband is British and doesn't like excessively sweet things.

We loved the filling (even better the 2nd day, and even snuck a little onto the day after Merry Berry turkey sandwich in place of the cranberry sauce (turkey, mayo, sweet pickle slices, cranberry sauce and alfalfa sprouts.

This is definitely a do again, and I'm keeping the pie crust recipe for all my other pies.
