Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound bacon, chopped
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 hot dogs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 (12-ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (12-ounce) can pork 'n' beans
  • 1 (12-ounce) can butter beans
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large skillet over medium heat, add bacon, ground beef, and onion. Cook until meat is browned all over, about 5 to 6 minutes. Add the hotdogs and all the beans to pan, and simmer until heated through. Once heated, put into a large mixing bowl and add brown sugar, sugar, ketchup, dry mustard, and liquid smoke. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Mix well and pour mixture into a 13-by 9-inch baking dish. Bake until casserole is thick and bubbly, about 1 hour.

I made this for a family function and it was the hit of the party. Now every gathering I'm elected to make this dish.I always read the reviews before making a dish and I find it really helps.I did omit the hot dogs and I didn't put any white sugar in the beans, also I added a little bbq sauce.VERY YUMMY !!

I made this recipe for a BBQ and found it very good. I omitted the ground beef and doubles the beans, sauce and added a tablespoon of Emeril's Essense. Sweet, smokey and spicy...a good turn out.

Yikes, this was WAY TOO SWEET! No wonder all the three year olds loved it, it's like candy on a plate in the guise of dinner. I felt like I needed an insulin injection after eating this. If I ever made it again, which I doubt I would, I would cut back the brown sugar by at least half, and totally omit the white sugar, and then I would serve it as a side dish. This is way too sweet to take up the bulk of a dinner plate as a main course, especially feeding it to kids, unless of course you want them buzzing around the room like little bumble bees for hours afterwards.
