Our friends' 16 year old daughter made these for "Girls' Night In" last Saturday and they were fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. Instead of making them pretzel shaped, she made them into bites which were just perfect. Imagine, a 16 year old with limited cooking skills using yeast, following the recipe and making something fantastic! I couldn't believe it as there was a time as an adult when I was afraid to use yeast and she just dived right in and came up with something great. Kudos to FoodNetwork for turning kids onto cooking!

I tried Alton Brown's recipe for soft pretzels and while his recipes are usually amazing, his pretzels had a hard outside and weren't that tasty for the work you had to put in to make them. These pretzels are soft and delicious!! If you dunk them in a little melted butter they are out of this world! Just like the mall pretzels!!! MUST TRY THEM!

I am terrible with yeast! I am a great pastry maker, but I am absolutely no good with yeast. Everything I make with yeast turns into a solid brik, but I followed this recipe to the t and was soooo satisfied. My husband was thrilled and my 6 year old son was asking for more, which is not usual for him. I will make these for the holiday season.

I made this recipe. I remembered whenever I buy pretzel from the mall I had to wait and while waiting I noticed they make their pretzel in front of you. They never bath them in soda solution I noticed also that with soda solution when the pretzel was done it had a bitter taste of after bite, me and my girls don't like it besides the only purpose of bath pretzels in baking soda solution is to make the pretzel chewy. What I did to mine was add a teaspon baking soda to remaining 1 1/4cup flour and salt whisk it then stir into the mix. After you arrange pretzel on the prepared baking sheet bake it for 400 degrees (coz it turn to brown so quick and the pretzel seems to be undercooked when put to 450 degrees then I used a 1 tablespoon melted butter to brush the pretzels and dip cinnamon sugar to a shallow dish to coat. The result Yummy Chewy Pretzel!

I never thought I could make soft pretzels - they always came out like bricks. These were soooo easy to make. Made to batches today - one was brushed w/butter and then sprinkled with cinnamon/sugar, the other was brushed with olive oil and garlic and topped with parm. cheese. My family loved them! Another wonderful recipe from my favorite cable tv network . . . keep 'em coming! :

I just made these with my 9 year old son. They were very easy and quick (plus rising. My son was excited to try out his pretzel forming techniques that he picked up from watching the employees at the mall.
I love that they were crispy crunchy on the outside and chewy and soft on the inside. Perfect.
Oh- and we used soy milk and margarine and they turned out perfect!
