I cannot believe how well this turned out. It is so easy to make a batch and hold it in the frig for different uses. Great!!!

I used a little more water.
Put in 1/2 a fresh jalapeno and instead of the salt a cube of chicken bullion.
Also skipped the butter, no need for it. Came out great!!!
Great different choice that rice or pasta.
Also...no burt food on the bottom of the pan!!! No stirring!!

This recipe couldn't be easier nor tastier! I have never had barley that was so yummy - this method gives it a deep nutty flavor! Thanks, Alton!

Best barley ever, oven method far superior to stove top. H20 amt. & bake time perfect! Excellent with a little celery seed & cayenne pepper.

Before I found this recipe the only one I could find was for boiling it on the stove top. That never worked. This is fool proof. I love it and use it all the time.

i prepare this recipe with long grain brown rice instead of barley, and microwave in a covered bundt pan on power level 2 (after the water has come to a boil for an hour... am anxious to substitute barley for rice, should be a welcome variation on the same theme for this wannabe vegetarian.
