This is my go to "green bean casserole" dish for the holidays. I love the fact that it's FRESH and not a bunch of canned goo and the taste is so rich and comforting! I do have trouble with the onions keeping their panko and not burning... but neither problem is huge. Yes, a lot of the crumbs fall off but it doesn't seem to matter! I also follow several other reviewers and turn the oven temp down (especially since my pans are dark. Can't wait to dig in :

Love this recipe! However, I don't do the onions. I cheat and use the pre-made kind. Other than that, I follow it exactly. It has converted many "I don't eat green bean casserole" people. My boyfriend now requests it at holiday functions. Really a wonderful holiday dish!

The taste is good, but the onions are waaay too much work and it's hard to get them just right. Maybe I'll try with French onions in a can? Or just try another recipe all together...

Amazingly tasty, fresh and delicious. I burned the onio,s, so depending on your oven -keep an eye on them. I followed recipe exactly.
Splitting the beans was time consuming for me (a novice cook so build in time for that. It's ow a regular on our Thanksgiving table and is worth the effort!

This was very good, but the onions were not worth the work. They require almost constant watching, and there's no way I can devote that much time and effort to something that can easily be substituted. I'm glad a did a trial run before Xmas.

It is the best green bean casserole - and easy too! Don't be afraid to sub canned green beans (though stay away from French cut or store-bought fried onions if you are in a pinch.

This is probably the only time I will give less than 5 stars for an Alton recipe, but... this just didn't do it for me. My sister made this last year for Thanksgiving and (at least claims she followed the recipe exactly. The onions were burned and the dish itself seemed to have no flavor. We are really trying to stick with "whole" foods and away from processed foods, but this is one time I think I will stick with the Campbell's and French's. It's only once a year, so I can deal. I may be brave enough to try this again, but not before I've tested it on my husband, since our first experience with it was pretty bad.

It really is the best green bean casserole ever. Just be sure to watch the onions while they're cooking, so they don't burn. Check after 15 minutes, then every 3-4 minutes after. I hate panko, I always use my own homemade breadcrumbs. I think buying breadcrumbs is the biggest waste of money, ever. I've never had leftovers of this so I'm doubling the recipe for Thanksgiving!

Sorry Alton, but I didn't like this one. I had to scrape the onions and settle for the French's. I burned them twice. When it was all said and done, it was just ok.
