Nice starter recipe for turkey soup. Especially useful for those unfamiliar with making their soup from a carcass. With experience, it's a great recipe to modify and build on. Interestingly, in the video Alton does strain the bones out of the broth before adding the other ingredients like the rice and vegetables.

Made this recipe last year with a Green Egg smoked turkey - it was absolutely FABULOUS!!!! Tonight I plan to make it with a two smoke ham-bones - you can't go wrong! As I always say . . . "Alton Brown Will Never Let You Down"!

WAY too much THYME!!! Glad I started with only one teaspoon of thyme or this would be in the trash. I agree with some of the other reviewers it was bland regardles of what I tried. OK for a quick soup but will not likely make it again. Lots of better turkey soup recipes around. Sorry Alton.

Really good, so easy! I didn't have any frozen vegetables or canned, oopsie. But I put in some roasted butternut squash cubes. very good, maybe a tad salty, i did use only 1 tsp thyme to start and didn't need more. A squeeze of lemon seems like it would have been welcome.

This is very good. Like the other reviewers, I removed the bones before adding the other ingredients. I also only added on tsp of thyme. This is definitely one of our after turkey day meals!

Much richer than I expected. Had a wonderful, full flavor; however, I agree with another reviewer that 2 tsp of thyme may be overdoing it, so I used 1 tsp thyme and 1 tsp parsley and was pleased with the result. Also, when making the stock, I put in some of the onions and herbs with which I had stuffed the turkey. I had brined my turkey (also AB's recipe so I didn't need any extra salt or pepper. I will definitely make this again and perhaps try it with chicken -- the only thing I may do differently is to add more rice (ie, 1/2 c..

Great soup! I remove the bones before I add the rice. When I did not, I had a terrible time separating small bones from the rice.

I have been making this recipe for several years after thanksgiving. It is outstanding. Recently I have been freezing my chicken carcasses (from Inas chicken with croutons recipe usually and when I have three I make this soup. Homey, delicious, and economical.
