    I gave this 4 stars because it came out perfectly cooked & my husband really liked it, but I found the spice blend sort of sweet and would have given it 3 at best. With the fennel and coriander, it just seemed cloying. I'll broil salmon again with this as a guideline but not with this spice mixture- I still can't get the smell out of my kitchen today. :P

    Flavor is excellent, however, apparently AB has a very subtle broiler- mine turned my salmon filets into salmon crackers in 8 minutes and set off my smoke alarm system. Definitely not something you can step away from! The seasonings are excellent though, and I will definitely try this again (but with a lot less broiling time and all my windows open!! Dinner with husband rating : 5/5 stars. Dinner-while-trying-to-get-kids-to-finish-homework: 2/5 stars.

    Pacific salmon is in season and I tried this recipe for my husband as he loves pacific salmon and he can get it so infrequently. He loved it! Thanks AB!

    One of my friends (who is Turkish said this was the best salmon she ever had. Trust me, this is a profound compliment, as they do know good fish. I've been easily able to vary the seasonings while utilizing this method. A side of salmon is no longer scary, just, you know, good east. Thanks, AB.

    This recipe is awesome! I made it for my friend who does not like seafood and even she liked it. It's relatively quick and easy to make. The Star Anise can be hard to find, it wasn't at the local grocery chain. I was able to find some at World Market for only $1.00 though. Be careful when broiling. Our oven is really old so it tends to cook hotter than it's supposed to. The first time I tried this recipe, I had the rack 6" away from the broiler (like it says to and the fish caught on fire (as did the inside of the oven. However, once the flames died down, the fish was still delicious! Since then I have broiled the fish on a lower rack setting and have had no problems.

    My husband has never cared for salmon, although I do. We saw Alton prepare this and decided to try it. My husband loved it! This is the only way he will eat salmon now! The whole star anise was difficult to find, but I was surprised to find it away from the name brand spices with a small section of spices that were more reasonable, from a local distributor I believe. The seasonings marry beautifully with one another. Now my relatives in Canada are making this! We love Alton Brown and what the recipes he shares.

    I first used this recipe for Christmas Eve, 2005, and plan to use it again this Christmas Eve. It brought oohs and aahs. It really is easy and very impressive.
    Absolutely delicious.

    Mmmmm mmm, this was by far the best salmon I have ever made! If you don't have a star anise pod, you could use some whole anise seed. Kinda toy around with the measurements, since anise has a licorice taste to it, don't add too much. I just used a broiling pan instead of a sheet pan, worked just the same. Highly reccomended for you salmon fans ;
